TWI Team Visits LNG Storage Tank Under Construction https://bit.ly/3LPdQ5O A team from TWI were invited to visit a site on the Isle of Grain in Kent to see a liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage tank that is currently under construction. The site, which is operated by Grain LNG (A National Grid company), is undergoing three workstreams to expand capacity and enhance infrastructure under the umbrella of their Capacity 25 (or ‘CAP 25’) project. Due for completion in 2025, CAP 25 combines three different workstreams; (1) the construction of the new storage tank, (2) ‘Main Site Works’ (MSW) to expand and upgrade the existing infrastructure on site to accommodate the new tank, and (3) a ‘Phase One Re-life’ programme of work to extend the life and operational availability of existing assets. CAP 25 has brought together a multi-disciplinary group of partners and suppliers, including civil, mechanical and electrical engineers, as well as experts in quality, procurement and control systems, project managers, and construction contractors. The TWI team was invited to Grain LNG to see the construction of the new 190,000m3 (working capacity) LNG storage tank, which will be the fifth of its size on the site once completed, although there was also tour of the other ongoing works. Offshore News - Gulf of Mexico: Congratulations DORIS Group, on the recent front-end engineering and design contract (FEED) award from Zama field partners. It covers the planning of two offshore platforms, 68 kilometers of pipelines and cables, and a new onshore facility, entirely dedicated to the Zama project, located in the Dos Bocas Maritime Terminal, in Paraiso, Tabasco. Doris will collaborate on the FEED work with two Mexican engineering companies, Nomarna and SUMMUM. With estimated gross resources of 600-800m boe, Zama is expected to significantly contribute to Mexico's energy supply over the next 25 years. At its peak, the field is projected to produce up to 180,000 barrels of oil daily, corresponding to around 10% of Mexico's current total oil production. Once these studies have been finalized, the Zama partners will proceed with the tendering process for the engineering, procurement, and construction contracts, followed by the final investment decision. Mexico's PEMEX operates the Zama field with a 50.43% stake, while Wintershall Dea, Talos Energy, and Harbour Energy hold 19.83%, 17.35%, and 12.39%, respectively. WellGear Announces Largest P&A Contract to Date   - Collaborative programme with NAM and Arcadis  - 800 wells to decommission over 350 sites - Project set to last 10 – 15 years   WellGear has announced a collaboration with Dutch operator, NAM BV Assen and engineering consultancy, Arcadis, to decommission 800 wells across 350 gas extraction sites throughout the Netherlands and to restore these sites to their original state. The overall project is estimated to take 10 – 15 years to complete.    WellGear's workscope is to permanently plug and abandonment (P&A) the 800 wells, drawing upon its extensive knowledge, experience and successful track-record in the Netherlands and internationally.    Arcadis' workscope is to return the gas extraction sites to their original state. The goal of the new collaboration is to safely and efficiently execute the project while minimising any impact to the environment.   Commenting on the landmark contract award, WellGear CEO Sigo Tjeerdsma said: "In this extensive programme, various areas of expertise from NAM, Arcadis, and WellGear come together. We will organise the execution in consultation with stakeholders and interested parties from the region; this element of the programme is something that greatly appeals to us."   NAM Director Johan Atema said: "Just like our gas and oil extraction, the cleanup of wells and sites should be done safely and with minimal inconvenience to the surroundings. Additionally, this is an activity that will be necessary not only in the Netherlands but worldwide in the coming decades. Wood has entered an agreement with Brazilian national oil company Petrobras to deliver concept studies with designs and recommendations aimed at optimising performance and reducing #emissions to support a future Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vision for the next decade. The first study will explore design concepts of FPSO units with lower human exposure to risk and increased operational #reliability, as this is an industry trend. The plan is to evaluate this concept for the entire unit and its practical application in one of the plant modules. The second study will explore design concepts to convert the current Petrobras Reference Design into an FPSO without main #electricity generation on the unit. Electrified by an external power source, #offshore #powergeneration hubs or integrated with the onshore system, this design will eliminate the biggest source of emissions onboard the traditional design. This project will be executed out of Wood’s Houston office, with local support in Rio de Janeiro, and will leverage the company’s marine systems and hull offshore expertise in Sandefjord, Norway. Wood will work collaboratively with engineers, scientists and researchers from Petrobras, many of whom are based at the Rio de Janeiro headquarters. This headquarters location houses the #engineering department for Surface Systems, responsible for all FPSO Conceptual and #FEED designs. Additionally, it serves as the home of the Petrobras Cenpes Research Center, the largest #oil #research hub in the southern hemisphere. Jacobs to Manage Construction Site for Decarbonization Project at thyssenkrupp Steel Source: www.gulfoilandgas.com 11/20/2023, Location: Europe Jacobs (NYSE:J) has been selected as Program and Construction Management (PMCM) partner for thyssenkrupp Steel's $2.5 billion effort to decarbonize its steel mill in Duisburg, Germany. According to thyssenkrupp, the site is Europe's largest steel mill, and the effort represents one of the largest industrial decarbonization projects worldwide. The project encompasses a new process using green hydrogen for iron reduction, replacing traditional coal-powered blast furnaces with hydrogen-powered electric smelters. When the plant goes into operation at the end of 2026, the site will produce 2.5 million metric tons of direct reduced iron (DRI) annually and reduce carbon emissions by up to 3.5 million metric tons per year. "Companies like thyssenkrupp and Jacobs are leading the way in global climate transformation with a focus on decarbonizing the industrial sector," said Jacobs Executive Vice President Patrick Hill. "This is a major project with a complex undertaking delivered through an integrated German and international team. The implementation of this emerging technology is an important step in transforming the industry and supply chain in Europe and beyond."
