On Wednesday morning of the WaterLANDS REST-COAST joint Consortium Meeting, a panel discussed existing and emergent challenges in #finance and #governance for wetland restoration. Governance panelists were Niall O Brolchain and @Elise Vitali (WaterLANDS) and Pilar Marin, MSc and Carles Ibanez (REST-COAST). Finance panelists were Roopal Kanabar and Rolf Hogan (WaterLANDS and Landscape Finance Lab ) and Fausto Favoro and Lieke Hüsken (REST-COAST). Solutions discussed included GOVERNANCE 🔹The need for a long-term vision for wetland restoration in policy making. 🔹Stronger support for bottom-up action, rather than relying on top-down approaches. FINANCE 🔹Moving beyond short-term public grants, to a more sustainable, long-term model that blends public and private finance. 🔹The need for supportive governance to create an enabling environment for private finance to flow to restoration projects. #WaterLANDSH2020 #GenerationRestoration European Research Executive Agency (REA)

Great comment from the Northern Housing Consortium on the use brownfield sites for affordable #newbuild housing. There is no doubt that the development of brownfield will bring many benefits however, the sites are "brown" for a reason and therefore #affordable housing developers need access to genuinely open sources of funding to de-risk brownfield sites that are open to all affordable housing developers. Let's hope we see the potential of brownfield sites unlocked with smart, intelligent funding programmes where additional support can be channelled into making brownfield sites viable so that we can bring forward high quality affordable housing and turn those urban wastelands into thriving communities. Bruce White's expertise, particularly in SW modelling and Water Supply networks, became a cornerstone for early projects like the Te Atatu North harbour modelling. ⚡️ Amidst these changes, New Zealand faced the global oil shock recession, a tumultuous time that drastically shifted economic landscapes. The crisis led to unprecedented measures like 'carless' days, reflecting the era's challenges. 🌟 Through it all, Woods navigated these changing times, laying the groundwork for the resilient and innovative company it is today.
