Today is #WorldFoodDay, celebrating the founding of FAO while highlighting actions that are needed to achieve more resilient food systems worldwide. This year’s World Food Day theme is “Water is life, water is food.” The campaign calls for actions to better manage water within the growing demand for food. According to ReFED, uneaten food consumes 22% of all freshwater use in the US alone. 𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 – 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗺𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗢𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘂𝘀 𝗔𝗚𝗠 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯    2023 was a challenging year for the global food system.   World events such as the Covid-19 pandemic, climate change, and growing political uncertainties, have disrupted global supply chains, triggering governments to adopt protectionist measures to ban food exports.   The case for food security is present and urgent. A growing global population will require a projected 70% increase in food production by 2050. Yet 14% of global food is wasted through supply chain inefficiencies.   With this in mind: Oceanus has a bold ambition to be the Asian leader in food security. Our mission is to create a more efficient and resilient global food marketplace, where trade of food flows without friction.   𝗪𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 “𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗕𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀”.   We know we can deliver this. Our vision is backed by our history in aquaculture production and expertise in food supply chain management, as well as our stellar results in 2023.   Here are the 𝗳𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 that we’re most proud of in FY2023:   1.     We achieved our third consecutive record revenue, soaring 47% year-on-year, hitting an all-time high of S$344.3 million. 2.     Our gross profit increased by 37% to S$25.2 million. 3.     Other operating expenses reduced by 22% in FY2023, despite an increase in the level of investments in technology. 4.     As of 31 December 2023, our balance sheet shows a healthy positive net asset position of S$61.3 million. 5.     Our product portfolio and global footprint has grown significantly over the past year. We achieved a 40% increase in overall product offerings and moved an average of about 100 containers monthly of food products globally. Reflecting on the key takeaways from the Oceanus AGM 2023 fills me with immense pride and a profound sense of journey. When I joined Oceanus in 2017, we were a modest abalone hatchery generating just SGD 1 million in revenue, with a passionate team of about 10 of us. Witnessing our evolution to a leading force in global food security, with a record-breaking revenue of SGD 344.3 million and a diverse team of 150 worldwide, has been nothing short of inspiring. This year's AGM highlighted our significant strides, particularly our commitment to "Food Without Borders." This vision is not just a strategic aim but a necessary response to today's global challenges, from the Covid-19 pandemic to climate change impacts. Our achievements, such as a third consecutive record revenue and a 40% increase in our product offerings, underscore our capability and dedication to enhancing the efficiency and resilience of the global food marketplace. The introduction of the Oceanus Digital Network (ODIN), a revolutionary blockchain-enabled platform, marks the beginning of a new era in how we handle cross-border food trades. It's a brilliant example of how innovation can drive sustainability and efficiency in our industry. I am deeply grateful to every board member, our tenacious team, shareholders, and partners.
