If the operator’s platform has not reached its fatigue life end, then instead of involving costly design, fabrication, and offshore installation of a new platform, one of the existing well slots can be recovered by performing a conductor recovery operation followed by a new well installation. 🔧🌊🛢️ Explore some of the challenges and cost-effective slot recovery methodologies which have been proven over several years with multiple operators in the Arabian Gulf. https://hubs.ly/Q02sFZH70

HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering intends to establish a manufacturing base for offshore wind structures at the Subic yard in the Philippines. The Philippines has grand plans to build offshore wind farms in their country but requires solid infrastructure to make this happen. HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering is seeking to establish a manufacturing base for offshore wind structures by leasing land and facilities at the Subic yard, which is all good news for the Filipino offshore wind market. Furthermore, this is good news for the rest of the market in the region as the Philippines’ geographical location is strategic when looking at the APAC market. There’s no doubt that the Philippines has the potential to be a manufacturing hub for the offshore wind industry, and HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering is among those kicking this off. What have engineers ever done for us? – the FPSO – “what, you’ve put the process plant on top of the tank farm!” Coming from an onshore petrochemicals background I was taken aback the first time I was made aware of the floating production storage and offtake (FPSO) concept. Onshore you would not consider putting hazardous process plant on top of a flammable inventory. So why do it offshore? The FPSO offered CAPEX, OPEX and Schedule benefits. Also, leasing arrangements could be very attractive as the concept had considerable re-use value for the owner. When I looked at the safety analysis that had been carried out to support the FPSO concept I realised my initial reaction was wrong. By deploying appropriate levels of protection the FPSO concept was shown to provide industry acceptable risk levels. I also thought that it is hard enough to operate oil/gas/water separation trains on a static platform never mind imposing wave motion on them. Again engineering solved the problem. The first FPSO was deployed in the late 1970s on the Shell Castellon field, located in the Spanish Mediterranean. Today there are hundreds of FPSOs working safely across the world. Back in the early 80s I’m sure no one was thinking about putting a floating liquified natural gas (FLNG) plant and storage offshore. Move forward 30 years and the £10 billion Prelude FLNG vessel was being used 120 miles off the Australian coast. The worlds largest man-made floating structure. An engineering monster – 600,000 tonne displacement, 488 m long with a 74m beam. I’ve put the plan area on to a map of central London. Oil and gas companies have been responsible for some of the most amazing engineering developments. Let's see what they can do to deliver net zero? This post is dedicated to the memory of Dave Choat, Shell – a wonderful person and one of the finest engineers it has been my pleasure to work with. (https://lnkd.in/gQhTtgfc)

Electric and digital-ready completions will support Petrobras’ move toward production system electrification. SLB has been awarded three contracts by Petrobras for completion hardware and services for up to 35 subsea wells in the development of Petrobras’ offshore Buzios Wave II oilfield. The scope of the contract includes SLB’s full bore electric interval control valves and electric subsurface safety valves. The award is a catalyst toward full production system electrification for Petrobras, improving production availability via more reliable completions. By converting to electric completions, Petrobras will gain the ability to reliably control a more sophisticated system in the subsurface. Full electrification of completions enables maximum production control across multiple reservoir drains, potentially requiring fewer wells and limiting heavy workovers during the productive life of the Buzios field wells. Much of the technology to be deployed in Buzios and available for o

👷♂️ Engineers Canada, the sole national representative of engineering regulators, has recently provided feedback to Natural Resources Canada on "Bill C-49" which aims to amend the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Atlantic Accord Implementation Act and the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Resources Accord Implementation Act. The purpose of the recommendations made was to improve the bill's ability to safeguard the public and environment in offshore regions. Some of the recommendations are as follows: 1. Close the regulatory gap to ensure better protection of the public and the environment in offshore engineering work. 2. Incorporate a requirement for licensed engineers. 3. Maintain collaboration with regulators. 🤔 What can we do to improve protection for the public and the environment in offshore engineering work, in line with Engineers Canada's recommendations? https://lnkd.in/gG8rr7vW #Engineering #OffshoreEngineering
