"The contextual perspective is essential. Smallholders’ challenges are highly variable from one country to another, one landscape to another, one community to another, [and] the need to design ahead of the crisis ... coming back to ... including system thinking, and turning system into action to support livelihoods. To help farmers bounce back better and continue to make progress is very important." ~ Simon Winter, Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture World Vision's multi-sectoral resilience framework underscores the importance of context-specific approaches and systems thinking. The framework's emphasis on systems thinking ensures that interventions are holistic and adaptive to varying contexts. This approach not only supports immediate recovery but also fosters long-term resilience by strengthening local systems and capacities. By anticipating crises and tailoring solutions to local contexts, we can build stronger, more resilient communities. Learn how applying these principles can help communities bounce back better and stronger. https://lnkd.in/e5rQffVf Thank you, Simon, for your keynote at our Road to Resilience Webinar last week. Your focus on contextual and system thinking was pivotal in our discussions. #resilientsystems #Sustainability #Development #SustainableDevelopment #MultisectoralResilience #Resilience #Innovation

What options do corporates have for financing on-farm carbon emission reductions and removals? Happy to have supported in this paper on 'Financing mechanisms for land-based actions' describing these options. Congrats to Kate Newbury-Hyde on leading in this work and the roundtable at #NewYorkClimateWeek #decarbonization #scope3 #WBCSD #NYCW #reporting

Check out WBCSD’s new resource “Financing mechanisms for land-based action” covering: ✅ Which mechanisms are available for corporate investment in land-based action with positive outcomes for #climate, #nature and #livelihoods ✅ How the most impactful mechanism depends on the objectives and activity type ✅ Why we need all these mechanisms to work at scale for farmers and producer communities WBCSD calls on agrifood corporates to leverage a portfolio of mechanisms to effectively scale land-based interventions. The paper also identifies actions for government, standard-setters, financial institutions, project developers, farmers and local communities. On this #WorldMSMEDay, we recognize the vital role of agricultural SMEs in rural communities. They are pillars of local economies creating market linkages and job opportunities, and play a pivotal role in reaching our collective #climate goals by facilitating inputs and promoting climate resilient activities with farmers. However, financing the #agricultural #SME sector often is associated with heightened risks and high transaction costs. As impact investors, we choose to navigate these barriers and support agri-SME strengthening and growth in exchange for the #social and environmental #impact they create. As the sector evolves, we continue to call on donors to share in that risk and to strengthen SMEs’ management and operational capacity to navigate market, climate, supply chain, and other crises. #MissingMiddle

Thrilled to share insights on the pivotal role of the private sector in shaping climate-responsive agrifood systems! FAO | UNDP🌱 Agrifood companies and relevant private sector actors play a crucial role in advancing climate action on a global scale. The SCALA programme recognizes this significance and has devised a comprehensive Private Sector Engagement (PSE) strategy to drive transformative climate action in agriculture and land use sectors. The SCALA PSE strategy focuses on three key intervention areas: 1. Mapping the private sector landscape to identify partners for climate action and fostering multi-stakeholder collaboration. 2. Strengthening the evidence base to articulate the business case for private sector engagement in climate action. 3. Addressing barriers and catalyzing private investment through innovative de-risking instruments. These interventions are pivotal in overcoming barriers such as misalignment of objectives, limited understanding of climate risks, and lack of investable ideas. However, engaging the private sector in climate-responsive food systems remains a formidable task for many countries. To support countries in this endeavor, a guidance brief has been developed, aligned with the SCALA PSE intervention areas. This resource, complemented with tailored consultations, aims to empower country teams to effectively engage with the private sector and drive impactful climate action. Together, let's unlock the potential of private sector partnerships to create resilient and sustainable agrifood systems. 🌍💼 More content here: https://lnkd.in/dAyeiBZ2 #ClimateAction #PrivateSectorEngagement #AgrifoodSystems #SCALAProgramme #SustainabilityLeadership
