Carbon removal is usually considered at the global scale, but individual projects play out locally. But to truly develop carbon removal projects with justice in mind, local stakeholders and project developers need a clear understanding of what fair and robust community engagement looks like. Our Senior Researcher, Kayla Cohen, interviewed several #carbonremoval developers to learn about their current engagement approaches to and identify any governance gaps. She identifies four key takeaways for policymakers. Read the full blog here: https://lnkd.in/erqNaXxW

Frustrated with progress made so far? Think we can do more? Come to the Inner Green Deal Community event and join one of the teams to address three big challenges of this moment: CHALLENGE ONE - NARRATIVES. How to accelerate change through more empowering narratives? How can we not only measure our negative impact (our footprint) but also start tracking our positive impact (our handprint)? CHALLENGE TWO - ORGANISATIONS. How to bring the human dimension into the sustainability work of organisations and how to strengthen the linkage between wellbeing and welldoing? CHALLENGE THREE – POLICY. How can the human dimension be integrated more deeply into climate and environmental policy? Let’s step up as a community and enlarge our handprint together. Join one of the teams that are being formed right now. See you tomorrow at 15:30 CET. To join, send us a message or register via the link in the comments below. It's #SolarSaturday, and today we're highlighting a two-time #SolarMoonshotProgram grantee, Community Action Network (CAN) of Ann Arbor, which recently celebrated its two-year #solaranniversary for a couple of solar projects that are part of the Bryant Neighborhood Decarbonization project. These solar projects were made possible thanks to our philanthropic partner, BQuest Foundation, which funded the Solar Moonshot Program grant. 🌎 Bryant is a neighborhood in Ann Arbor, Michigan, that is engaged in a deep, multi-year effort to become the first fully decarbonized neighborhood in the Midwest. The Bryant Neighborhood Decarbonization project is an effort to work directly with residents in the Bryant neighborhood to design a strategy to improve health, safety, affordability, comfort and get local carbon emissions to zero. The Bryant neighborhood consists of roughly 260 households, of which 75 percent are considered low-income, over 50 percent of residents are BIPOC and 50 percent of residents are renters. This project is about more than solar, it’s about equitable decarbonizing and transforming the lives of a Community of Concern. Over the past year, the solar power systems have been able to produce 9,760 kWh of clean solar power, resulting in thousands of dollars in electric bills savings. Our first Solar Moonshot Program grant to Community Action Network was in collaboration with the City Of Ann Arbor and helped the city’s first clean energy resilience hub come to fruition thanks to our philanthropic partner, #LeftCoastFund. "Hammond Climate Solutions Foundation's Solar Moonshot Program is a critical first step in Community Action Network's effort to create the first pre-existing neighborhood to become carbon neutral in the Midwest! Our innovative approach to neighborhood-wide coordination and collaboration in a predominantly BIPOC under-resourced community will serve as a future template for addressing both environmental and social justice. The Solar Moonshot Program's early on investment has provided the much-needed nudge to ensure success!” said Derrick Miller, the executive director of Community Action Network. To learn more about this project, visit https://lnkd.in/ghd5xBnz To learn more about the Solar Moonshot Program, which helps nonprofit organizations afford the switch to solar, visit www.solarmoonshot.org Stay tuned for next week’s #SolarSaturday feature! ☀️

🎉 Day 10 of our Texas Impact Enterprise Awards honoree announcements! We're excited to announce this year's Corporate Champions, a distinguished group of organizations that have demonstrated outstanding leadership and innovation within the business sector. These champions have not only excelled in their industries but have also made significant contributions to their communities and the broader economy. HKS, Inc.: Established in 2014 with a core mission of enhancing lives and communities, Citizen HKS harnesses the power of design, volunteerism, and financial philanthropy to uplift communities and drive positive change. Through HKS, the Citizen HKS initiative provides pro bono design service grants to apply design thinking towards positive social change. Octopus Energy US: Texas is awash in beautiful carbon-free electrons. By intelligently using power when renewables are abundant and curtailing usage when renewables are scarce, we are creating deeply decarbonized energy products that are cheaper than "standard" energy rates in the market. This is the unique trifecta of reducing carbon, saving Texans money, and stabilizing the grid at the same time. SWA Group: At SWA Group, we believe landscape architecture, planning, and urban design can be a transformative force for improving the health and well-being of people and natural systems. Serving Texas for almost 50 years, SWA has delivered creative, resilient, multi-benefit design on more than 500 projects statewide. #TexasImpactAwards #CommunityImpact #Changemakers
