Faced with tackling climate change, public water utilities are working towards achieving climate adaptation; however, they also face significant funding gaps. In a new report, the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) looks into this issue. It warns that a nearly $1 trillion funding deficit is predicted, with competition for funds making access difficult. https://lnkd.in/dtxb4H38 #water #waterutilities #climatechange

Report: U.S. clean water utilities advance climate resilience, anticipate $360B costs by 2050 - On December 13, the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) issued a new report, “Resiliency in the Balance: Funding Challenges for Clean Water Utilities in Addressing Climate Adaptation.” Across the US, a growing number of successful climate adaptation and resilience initiatives are underway, but securing adequate funding in the water sector to support these critical programs is not guaranteed. #cleanwaterutilities #waterinfrastructure #climateresilience #climateadaptation https://lnkd.in/eQ6mhqCz

"Within the water sector, there's going to be increasing attention needs to be paid to adaptation. This isn't going to go away." — Jim Hall, Commissioner of the National Infrastructure Commission. Achieving climate resilience requires clear targets and dedicated resources, and with it, comes the need for specific goals within the National Adaptation Programme to drive necessary investments in the water sector. Learn more about Hall's take on the importance of long-term funding commitments and regulatory guidance to ensure that the water sector can effectively address climate change risks, on our new digital series created in collaboration with Content With Purpose, 'The Ripple Effect', at 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eEvHZBKK 🎤: Jim Hall #TheRippleEffect #ClimateAdaptation #NatureBasedSolutions #ClimateChangeAdaptationTechnologies #FloodAndCoastManagement #ClimateChangeResilient 🎥: Content With Purpose

Big News for Illinois Climate Action! Last week, the Illinois EPA secured a $430 million grant from the U.S. EPA's Climate Pollution Reduction Grant, fueling the state’s ambitious Priority Climate Action Plan. This funding will support building decarbonization, targeting an 8.5 billion metric ton CO2 reduction by 2030! Key initiatives include building retrofits, electrification, and community geothermal projects—all part of Illinois' bold path to cutting energy use by 33% by 2050. Excited to see Illinois leading the charge toward a greener future! 🌱 Here is the link to learn more about the new " PRIORITY CLIMATE ACTION PLAN": https://lnkd.in/gtMfjgVP #ClimateAction #Sustainability #BuildingDecarbonization #CleanEnergy

Thrilled to see the multi-sector focus on greenhouse gas reduction in the recently submitted New England state Priority Climate Action Plans (PCAPs) available at EPA's Climate Pollution Reduction Grant website. The variety of priority actions identified aligns with Fuss & O'Neill's approach of integrating climate resilience and mitigation across all our services. As expected, the plans prioritize the electric vehicle (EV) transition, with a focus on both EV adoption incentives and infrastructure development. Decarbonizing buildings is another key area of focus, reflecting the significant impact both transportation and buildings have on current emissions. Several states included organics waste diversion strategies in their PCAPs – a welcome addition! Here are some particularly noteworthy actions that highlight individual state priorities: ▪ Connecticut: Prioritizing hydrogen use at ports. ▪ New Hampshire & Vermont: Targeting decarbonization of wastewater and drinking water facilities. ▪ Vermont: Promoting carbon sequestration through farms, forest management, and wetland restoration (leveraging key land uses). ▪ Massachusetts: Prioritizing nature-based solutions for carbon sequestration. These plans showcase strong commitments and diverse approaches to tackling climate change. You can find all the submitted PCAP's here - https://lnkd.in/ebrxqm7R #ClimateAction #Sustainability #NewEngland #PCAP #FussONeill
