With #internationalwomensday2024 coming up tomorrow, it's the perfect time to share this excellent documentary from Equal Exchange Co-op showing how the co-operative business model can be a real engine for women's economic empowerment. We especially appreciate the way that Equal Exchange leans into Principle 6 (Co-operation Among Co-ops), supporting and building international co-op supply chains. https://lnkd.in/gQCueq4r

Equity, diversity & inclusion | HE widening access & participation | Impact evaluation and evaluation training | Level 5 management coach | Trainee child and adolescent psychotherapeutic counsellor | Carer advocacy
These "alarming figures" are a key reason why we need to build awareness and understanding, and develop meaningful actionable strategies for both student and staff unpaid carers in higher education. We need to make what is largely invisible visible. We need to understanding the diversity within caring. We need to support and enable unpaid carers. We need to stop the gender pay gap from widening further in the sector and beyond. Also, important to note that given that a key part of the statistical analysis was based on census data, relying on carer self-identification, these numbers are likely to be quite conservative. According to Carers UK an estimated 1 in 7 are trying to balance employment with care, and women have a 50:50 chance of being a carer by age 46.
Ramzi Suleiman, from Carers Trust, said: “These alarming figures show how women are disproportionately shouldering the pressures of caring. This is a long-term trend and it’s high-time action was taken to tackle it." Find out more: https://bit.ly/4aEqUFX
