#SupportBlackBusiness - The Rainier Beach Redevelopment Local Loyalty Program The Rainier Beach High School redevelopment project is more than just a construction site; it catalyzes community revitalization. Through a unique Local Loyalty Program, construction workers are encouraged to support local businesses like Umami Kushi and Creamy Cone Cafe, fostering economic growth and strengthening community ties. "It's really us trying to invent a way to allow the project and the dollars being spent on the projects to be reinvested in the community we're in," explains Lydig Construction Senior Project Manager Patrick McGlothlin. By incentivizing workers to explore local shops and restaurants, the program ensures the project's positive impact is felt throughout Rainier Beach. This initiative showcases the importance of investing in local economies and building bridges between projects and the communities they serve. The Rainier Beach High School Redevelopment Project exemplifies how construction projects can create a lasting legacy beyond the physical structure. #LocalLoyalty #CommunityInvestment #RainierBeachRedevelopment #BuildTheBeach

📣 VOA-GNY is thrilled to announce that we have been selected as a co-developer of Hillside Grove. This transformative project will replace a long-disputed sanitation depot in Staten Island with affordable housing and a vibrant hub of amenities for the local community. As a part of a broader initiative to revitalize Staten Island’s North Shore, Hillside Grove will feature: 🏠 232 units of affordable housing 🌳 Courtyard spaces for residents 🛍️ A public plaza and a grocery store, addressing a critical food desert in the area For decades, community advocates have fought for the depot’s closure. Now, this project will do just that while advancing housing, food, and environmental justice. We are grateful to our collaborators Spatial Equity Co., NEHEMIAH HOUSING DEVELOPMENT FUND COMPANY INC, Purpose by Design Architects PLLC, Ametrine Group, NYC Department of Housing Preservation & Development, and NYC Department of City Planning for making this vision a reality. 🌟 Successful Presentation at Hutton Cranswick Parish Council 🌟 Last night, we had the pleasure of presenting our proposed Passive House Development for Hutton Cranswick to the Parish Council. The session was incredibly engaging, with thoughtful questions and constructive feedback from the attendees. Key topics of discussion included: ▪️ Affordable Housing: Addressing the need for accessible, sustainable homes for all. ▪️ Housing for New Families: The potential to meet the housing needs of young families in the area. ▪️ Sustainable Design: Highlighting the energy efficiency and low-carbon benefits of Passive House standards. ▪️ Pricing: Ensuring the final properties are competitively priced for the market. 🏡 One important issue raised was the plot’s location outside the current development boundaries for Hutton Cranswick - The proposed development, while outside the current village development boundary, aligns with the Government's commitment to addressing the national housing shortage by delivering high-quality, sustainable homes. With a focus on energy efficiency and environmental responsibility, this project supports the push for more housing in rural areas, ensuring communities like Hutton Cranswick can grow sustainably and attract new families. We also discussed accessibility to the village, and we’re pleased to share our commitment to working with the Highways Agency to create a new footpath and cycle path connecting the development to the village, just 130 meters away. The next steps? We’re moving forward with the pre-planning application and look forward to collaborating with stakeholders to bring this exciting project to life. A big thank you to the Parish Council and everyone who attended for their time, insights, and support. This project represents a step forward in sustainable, community-focused housing, and we’re excited for what’s to come! #SustainableLiving #PassiveHouse #HuttonCranswick #GrayArchitecturalDesign #CommunityEngagement #GreenBuilding #FutureHomes #EastYorkshire

Thanks to funding from Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), many #ACRENetwork members are currently available to support #rural communities appraise and meet local need for #affordablehousing as part of our Rural Housing Enabler Programme. #RuralExceptionSites like this are a good example of what can be achieved. https://lnkd.in/eAjET88a
You may have seen us post previously about our work with partners developing affordable housing for local people on #ruralexceptionsites. You’ve probably wondered what the results look like and this video taken by our partners CHS Group gives a real insight. This small, eight dwelling scheme at Harston Road in Newton (in South Cambridgeshire) has provided much-needed homes for people with an existing connection to the village through living or working there or having close family locally. You can see that it blends seamlessly into the existing properties with attractive design, plenty of garden space for people to enjoy and lots of car parking. Cambridgeshire ACRE has been able to extend its work with rural communities to meet more local housing need thanks to funding from Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs via ACRE and we look forward to working with our partners to help more people find affordable homes in the places they know and love.

We're pleased to be at the Building Garden Communities Conference today. Our Senior Researcher Hani Salih took part in an engaging discussion on the potential role of Build to Rent (BTR) development in Garden Towns. Here are some key insights that came up: - Richard B. highlighted how single-family housing can serve as a catalyst for diverse housing options within communities. - Jo Davis discussed the substantial £1.9 billion investment in single-family housing, emphasising its appeal for immediate occupancy and its potential to foster vibrant, legacy-driven communities. - David Reid underscored the potential of institutional ownership and management in ensuring the longevity and quality of BTR developments. - Eve Murzyn emphasised the importance of understanding local needs and engaging with local authorities from the outset to tailor BTR solutions to specific communities. - Hani Salih highlighted the significance of resident involvement and the integration of green spaces to foster community cohesion and a sense of belonging. It was suggested that BTR is a must-have because of the institutional capital it brings, its potential to create communities early on, and the possibilities it brings for providing a diverse mix of housing and tenure types and infrastructure. Plenty of food for thought, and we're looking forward to seeing how some of this plays out in the results of our current research into the social impact of BTR developments. #BuildToRent #GardenTowns #CommunityDevelopment #BTR #SocialImpact #Stewardship #UKHousing #ResidentialDevelopment

📣 HIPP responds to New Towns Taskforce 🏡 “We’ve committed to two major schemes, each delivering 10,000 homes at Harlow & Gilston Garden Town and Hemel Garden Communities. This builds on Hertfordshire’s 23-year high of successfully delivering the highest number of homes in 2024. “Hertfordshire has always been at the forefront of planning for growth, and these new developments showcase our commitment to sustainable living. As we continue to pioneer in this area, it's crucial that these homes are recognised as counting toward local plan numbers, not in addition to them. This approach ensures we maintain the trust and support of our community. “I welcome the opportunity to continue working together for a thriving Hertfordshire, ensuring that our residents and businesses continue to prosper in a well-planned, sustainable county, and play our role in the national growth mission.” — Cllr Jeremy Newmark, HIPP Chair Read our full response 👉 https://lnkd.in/eCZGKQpp #NewTownsTaskforce #RightHomesRightPlaces #HertfordshireGrowth
