We recently discovered that Doctors in Distress runs a Wednesday Support Group for all healthcare professionals. Held via Zoom each week 12:30-1:30 pm supported by an experienced facilitator. Participants are encouraged to chat informally and confidentially with other healthcare professionals on themes led by the group. So, if you are suffering from stress, or burnout, and have questions about self-care, this could be the confidential space you’ve been looking for. No pre-booking is required, just express your interest via Eventbrite or by emailing contact@doctors-in-distress.org.uk and they will send you the link. https://buff.ly/4gmYy6q #StartTheConversation (and keep talking.) #ChangeTheNarrative #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #worldsuicidepreventionday #WSPD

It is National Stress Awareness month, and here are FOUR key ways for healthcare professionals to adeptly manage work-induced stress! ✅ Schedule routine visits with healthcare providers to maintain overall physical and mental health. ✅ Allocate 30 minutes daily for exercise unrelated to work ✅ Streamline administrative processes to boost efficiency and alleviate unnecessary worries. ✅ Keep open communication with supervisors regarding workload or scheduling challenges. And, to tie it in with accelerated medical billing, ensure integration of efficient billing systems to streamline administrative tasks and alleviate additional stress. Healthcare Advocate | Burnout Survivor Turned Thriver | Travel Health Coach | Writer | Speaker | Pharmacist | Empowering clients to OPTIMIZE their HEALTH & DEMYSTIFY the healthcare system
Healthcare is a serious business. And yet, all that seriousness adds additional stress my clients hope to lower. Working with me, clients know to “send up a flair” (i.e., message) if unsure or confused. A flurry of new appointments created ambiguity about the purpose of this particular doctor’s visit, resulting in a quick chat. Because I work with clients over time, I have a keen understanding of their pressures, mood, and anxiety. Here, I shifted the energy of this chat to feel positive and uplifting. I could almost feel a sigh of relief when we ended the conversation. If you (or your family) face health challenges that stress you out, we should talk. Feeling isolated with challenges in the workplace or simply been ground down and exhausted by a run of patients passing away? Just because it is your job as a clinician and the common perception is 'that is what you signed up for', doesn't mean that patients don't touch you emotionally. In #ClinicalSupervision, we discuss your caseload and how patients react to you and you react when they have died. We can look at what is causing you to feel run down and exhausted, what you need now and how you can prevent this in the future. Accessing #ClinicalSupervision for staff is part of a robust health and wellbeing strategy that every front facing organisation should have in place.

Healthcare workers are the backbone of our medical system, tirelessly dedicated to meeting patients' diverse and often complex needs with competence and compassion. But their dedication comes at a cost. The fast-paced environment exposes them to physical, mental, emotional, and ethical challenges, including burnout, chronic fatigue, trauma, and moral injury. Distinguishing between these experiences can feel like navigating a fog. Many of us struggle to find the right interventions to effectively support ourselves and our colleagues. This lack of clarity can lead to missed opportunities to address these issues, ultimately impacting our well-being and the quality of care we provide. Understanding these challenges is crucial for creating a supportive environment where everyone can thrive. Yesterday, I presented a one-hour webinar for the Seattle/King County Prevention/Public Health Division. In this session, we tackled these challenges head-on, breaking down the key differences and exploring the most effective interventions for each. We equipped attendees with practical tools to recognize and address these issues, fostering a more supportive and resilient healthcare workforce. Special thanks to Tesia Forbes, Meagan Kay, and Adriene Miller for their invaluable support and dedication to public health. #PublicHealth #Burnout #ChronicFatigue #MoralInjury #Trauma #MentalHealth
