In the small scale solar segment of the industry, community solar is a big driver but overall the market continues to be very fractured in how it is developed, approved and constructed. The DOE is helping, and that has turned into 25 new communities in the Energy Transitions Initiative Partnership Project. This latest cohort will each receive technical assistance and up to $50,000 to support projects focused on everything from water filtration and wildfire preparedness to heat pumps, battery storage, microgrids, electric transportation, solar power interconnection, and wind energy potential. What I find particularly exciting about this new cohort is that it includes six Alaska communities, reflecting the growth of renewable energy solutions across diverse regions. #CommunitySolar #RenewableEnergy #SolarPower #Sustainability

This is massive. During my PhD defense closed session, one of my committee members asked me: "why is it so hard to get these ISOs and grid operators to try out some of our algorithms?" Essentially, his question sprouted from the fact that I developed a lot of methods/algorithms and his own experience, these methods or tools only stay within the academic or research realm. Building new tech is easy, building the right tech is hard, but getting the right people to use your product in a mission-critical way, is a monumental task. I struggled with this fact during my PhD, even when collaborating with industry partners and utilities. Many even accuse the energy utilities to be "dinosaurs" - however the reasons make sense. The grid controls the national economy and the incentives to adopt new tech (especially in the US), are not aligned. It is a dream to see years of hard work crescendo at this massive moment, as everyone is scrambling to secure the next clean electron, in parallel with preserving our environment. #Tapestry #Energy #AI
Chile’s Coordinador Eléctrico Nacional has been an ideal partner to Tapestry. Their inspiring vision to shift to a zero-carbon grid, paired with a willingness to try new technologies, made them a perfect match for our vision. After a few years developing our technology and then piloting it together, today I’m thrilled to share that CEN will now begin deploying Tapestry's Grid Planning Tool for their annual transmission planning process — which is how grid planners assess Chile’s energy needs 20 years into the future and how to invest hundreds of millions in grid improvements. This marks an important milestone for Tapestry’s grid planning suite. After ushering this new technology through several phases of development, we’ve successfully delivered a commercially-viable product that’s delivering impact for our partners. I’m incredibly proud of our team and the results of their hard work with CEN: tools that will enable Chile’s grid planners to work more efficiently and onboard renewables at scale. We all know that solar and wind are key renewable energy sources. Another source you may be less familiar with are Thermal Energy Networks, a way to decarbonize buildings at neighborhood scale using sources like waste heat from wastewater, data processing centers, the subway and geothermal boreholes.
