Equipment Dealers...listen up! OEMs, this applies to you guys, too! Technicians are your Bread and Butter!!! Did you know that 90% of the heavy equipment job postings are for Technicians? I get a good chuckle every time I see someone at a dealership, regardless of their position, post in their feed that they are hiring technicians. 😂 I don't usually say this out loud (sometimes I do, unintentionally...lol), but in my head I'm saying "get in line!". OF COURSE you're looking for technicians!! The question though, is whether you are doing anything different to attract (and keep) the talent you want?!? If "Post & Pray" is your sourcing strategy, well, that's like taking a water pistol to war. It's a really bad approach. No disrespect HR, but 90% of HR teams are tactical. For most, HR is all about compliance and administration (not strategy, organizational alignment, or cultural branding). 💡 Recruiting used to be an HR function...today, if you're recruiting "high demand/low supply" talent, then it should be a marketing function. You have to go out and reach your audience and put your "retail recruiting" approach to bed. If you're betting on someone walking in the door to shop around, you'll be a living, breathing definition of insanity.
