We analyze job postings across the US for #heavyequipment #dealers, heavy equipment #rental, and heavy equipment OEMs. The core #jobs are Sales, Parts, and Service (mostly technicians/mechanics). Occasionally, no matter how good your hiring process is, you get one of “those guys” who is great at interviewing but terrible at actually getting work done. Equipment Dealers...listen up! OEMs, this applies to you guys, too! Technicians are your Bread and Butter!!! Did you know that 90% of the heavy equipment job postings are for Technicians? I get a good chuckle every time I see someone at a dealership, regardless of their position, post in their feed that they are hiring technicians. 😂 I don't usually say this out loud (sometimes I do, unintentionally...lol), but in my head I'm saying "get in line!". OF COURSE you're looking for technicians!! The question though, is whether you are doing anything different to attract (and keep) the talent you want?!? If "Post & Pray" is your sourcing strategy, well, that's like taking a water pistol to war. It's a really bad approach. No disrespect HR, but 90% of HR teams are tactical. For most, HR is all about compliance and administration (not strategy, organizational alignment, or cultural branding). 💡 Recruiting used to be an HR function...today, if you're recruiting "high demand/low supply" talent, then it should be a marketing function. You have to go out and reach your audience and put your "retail recruiting" approach to bed. If you're betting on someone walking in the door to shop around, you'll be a living, breathing definition of insanity. Is there a diesel mechanic shortage or is there a shortage of diesel mechanics looking for new jobs? If you're struggling to fill open tech roles within 30 days, data would say it's the latter. According to tool financing data and job board search activity, 75% - 80% of mechanics are NOT looking for a job, so companies are needing to get creative in their talent outreach including: - targeting technicians based on 1st party data like tool financing (not relying on job boards) - heavier emphasis on employer branding - additional support & process around recruiting - using technology to get candidates on the phone - And more What else have you seen work?

A person who is qualified for a job already knows what tasks they perform. What is interesting about performing tasks? Creating outcomes! Don't write tasks, write outcomes. Or, ask AI to help you.
