If the idea is wrong, everything that follows will be wrong too. It’s easy to envision the finished product, but it can be much harder to envision how you’re going to get there.  When onboarding new clients at The Principality, we prioritise the ideas phase. 💡 It’s easier to fix an idea than it is to fix the finished product.  💡 Conceptualisation and wireframing helps us stay on track if any unforeseens occur. 💡 We want to fully understand your ‘why’. It eliminates future back and forth over the concept.  Our strategy affects our client’s comms. And our ideation impacts our strategy. So we make sure it's strong from square one!

Our San Francisco Service Design community is alive and well! Thanks Andrea Fineman for initiating SF SDN's first meet up of 2024. It was wonderful to reconnect with familiar faces and to greet new ones. ❤️ It's heart warming and inspiring to rebuild momentum as a community. Especially after the last number of years of mergers & acquisitions in the design agency world that brought many designers into in house roles (including myself). In the process, we lost some of the ecosystem building momentum and connective tissues for cross-pollinations and growth. It's inspiring to come together to hear what everyone's up to and thinking - rekindling our collective passion for human-centered service design in the bay area ecosystem. As a new wave of more powerful technology, such as AI, coming to the scene, it's such an important time for (service) design communities everywhere to re-connect in dialogue and in hands-on collaborations to ensure that human needs are represented in the products, services, and systems that we are building. So that we can build on the the lessons of the last technological cycle and progress, rather than regress. We reflected We envisioned We played Thank you Oakland for hosting our first offsite! Our few days together were invigorating and balanced. The views were beautiful, the food delicious and the energy dynamic. Besides exploring, connecting and laughing, we did invest in our core. Some of our favorite work-related activities: 1️⃣ We returned to our values and assessed how we might further operationalize processes that honor them. 2️⃣ We discussed our individual and shared strengths. It’s probably no surprise that our top Gallup strengths collectively include: Achiever, Communication, and Futuristic. 3️⃣ We revisited our growth goals and determined objectives for the next quarter. 4️⃣ We dreamed a little about incubating products, launching programs and deepening domain expertise. 🔚💕 The culmination. We care about and thrive on community so we brought together Bay Area researchers, designers, product managers, and engineers. 40 people joined us. It was such an honor to meet some of our current clients in person and brainstorm with some prospects. 🎉Yes, we are adding 2 new clients in Q2 of 2024! While last year was a challenge from a top-line revenue perspective, I'm proud of my team's 29% close rate at Commence Studio! Productizing what we do has made time-to-send rates shrink, and close rates increase! According to Teamwork.com "looking at sales closing ratio benchmarks can still be helpful since most agencies will fall much closer to the average [...]. A general rule of thumb is that a sales closing ratio of 20% is considered average, while a 30% or higher ratio is considered best in class." Now time to keep filling the funnel! 📈 P.S. "The same, but better”. Our motto for 2024. In June 2020, as the world grappled with the unprecedented challenges of the COVID pandemic, I embarked on a transformative journey with Brooklinen, leading their Digital Product teams. Brooklinen tasked the team with a colossal mission – a complete site redesign in 4 months to showcase their new visual brand identity and update their tech stack to the latest best practices. Embracing the 'impossible', we focused on the nuances of the redesign and team dynamics. I created a bi-weekly virtual "happy hour" – a space for team bonding, laughter, and sharing, away from work pressures. This initiative was more than just a break; it became a crucible for team spirit and creativity. During one of those happy hours, the phrase “the same, but better” bubbled up as a way to summarize the heart of what the site redesign would yield. Making the digital experience “the same, but better” became our unifying tagline through the ups and downs of the initiative.
