🌀 Hurricane Beryl was downgraded over the weekend and made landfall in the United States as a Category 1 storm on Monday, bringing with it high winds, flooding, and tornadoes. The right front quadrant of the storm created particularly favorable conditions for tornadoes, leading the NWS to issue 113 tornado warnings in a single day across Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas. Over 2.5 million people lost power, with about a million still in the dark. 🌡 Heat indexes are expected to reach up to 106 degrees in Houston today, and while high heat and humidity are typical for Houston summers, many still don’t have access to working air conditioning due to the power outages brought about by Beryl. The NWS has extended a heat advisory for the area through tomorrow, recommending that people stay hydrated and avoid strenuous outdoor activities. 🌪 As the southern states recover, the northeast is feeling Beryl’s remnants. The NWS has issued a tornado watch for nearly 9 million people across New York, Pennsylvania, and Vermont. As always, to all in the impact zones, stay safe! #weatherwednesday #hurricaneberyl

The National Hurricane Center expects Francine to make landfall in Louisiana on Wednesday, and it could be a Category 2 hurricane with winds as high as 100 mph. Coastal areas are expecting to see gusty winds, rough seas and a high risk of rip currents as the storm moves closer. Areas to the north in Alabama could get several inches of rain, and forecasters will be on the lookout for tornadoes as rain bands move onshore and the storm moves inland. The National Weather Service in Huntsville said northern Alabama could get 1 to 3 inches of rain, mainly on Thursday, as Francine or its remnants move by to the west. More of the state could run the risk of seeing isolated strong storms and tornadoes on Thursday as well. https://lnkd.in/etDm4aAs

Tropical Storm Milton Updates: Milton’s Strength & Forecast: Milton is rapidly gaining strength, with current winds at 60 mph. Due to its smaller size, it can quickly intensify or weaken. There's a possibility that shear and dry air surrounding the storm could weaken it before its expected landfall on Wednesday, but we cannot be certain. At this point, the reality is that a powerful hurricane is likely to impact a portion of the West Coast on Wednesday. https://lnkd.in/eNEjn_ej

Tropical Storm Debby has 45 mph winds and is moving northwest at 15 mph. The storm is currently in the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, heading towards the Big Bend area. Models indicate it could strengthen into a Category 1 hurricane due to favorable conditions in the Gulf. Debby is expected to make landfall on Monday morning. Once over land, it may slow down, leading to significant flooding in Florida and Georgia. Additionally, there is a wave in the main development region that has intensified over the last 24 hours, requiring close monitoring.

Hurricane Milton is already making its presence felt in Florida, generating a dangerous outbreak of tornadoes hours before its anticipated landfall. As of 2:45 PM ET, there are 12 active tornado warnings in effect, with three classified as Particularly Dangerous Situation (PDS) storms. PDS warnings are reserved for the most severe tornado events, indicating a high probability of strong and violent tornadoes with the potential for significant damage and long tracks. Making matters worse, many of these tornadoes are rain-wrapped, meaning they are obscured by heavy rainfall and difficult to see. This poses an increased risk to residents, as visual confirmation of a tornado may be delayed or impossible. To help visualize the threat, we're using the Opterrix tornadic rotation potential dataset. Shown as yellow and orange bands on the map, this data highlights areas where the storm is most likely to produce tornadoes. ------- We are offering carriers temporary access to the Opterrix Platform to carriers with policyholders in Florida to aid in hurricane response and recovery efforts. As #Helene approaches the Florida coast, it's a powerful reminder of nature's unpredictability. Despite our advanced technology and scientific understanding, forecasts can still vary widely. While some models suggest it may only be a Category 1 hurricane—an outcome that seems increasingly unlikely —others indicate the potential for a major Category 3 storm. For communities that have already faced repeated damage over the past couple of years, the impacts could be catastrophic. Imagine this: in less than 72 hours, thousands of Gulf Coast residents could find themselves without homes. The situation could worsen if Helene maintains tropical storm strength as it moves 300 to 400 miles inland. Picture Dallas feeling the effects of a storm that initially made landfall in Galveston. If you or anyone you care about lives along the coast, it's crucial to have a solid emergency plan (see attached link). Stay informed and pay close attention to updates, especially evacuation orders, from local and national authorities. Remember, we’re still nine weeks away from the traditional end of hurricane season. Thank you to all the incredible volunteers and responders who are mobilizing to help this busy season. https://lnkd.in/gumbrT8M
