Over the last year the Inclusive Climate Action programme at C40 Cities has had the pleasure of working with The Scottish Government through their Climate Justice Fund to support cities in Africa, Asia and South America to pilot local policies and programmes on #lossanddamage, #justtransition and innovative approaches to #inclusiveclimate action. The partnership has been instrumental in driving forward urban solutions to the most pressing climate and socio-economic challenges in tandem, as well as supporting our global advocacy on the important subnational dimension of #lossanddamage and #justtransition in key forums. It is in this crucial context that the Nairobi Summer School on Climate Justice (NSSCJ) has emerged as a beacon of hope and empowerment. As a climate change scientist, this opportunity is crucial for advancing my research on sustainable solutions and understanding the broader impacts of climate justice. Children and young people should have a meaningful say on matters that affect them - and much more. When it comes to the #climatecrisis, children and young people have stories, knowledge, hope, solutions and power. It’s just that the adults need to listen and collaborate with them better. Governments, businesses, think-tanks, advocates, and organisers who want to meaningfully engage with children and young people on #climatechange should look no further than this innovative world-first research from from the Young and Resilient Centre at Western Sydney University and UNICEF Australia. It is possible to speak with young children on complex matters of science, policy and action if you do it right. #participation #accountability #voice

The Nairobi Summer School on Climate Justice (NSSCJ) is a transformative platform that unites climate advocates, practitioners, and scholars to address pressing climate justice issues. Hosted by Chuka University in collaboration with the Pan African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA), this symposium fosters critical discussions on equitable climate solutions. Participants from the Consortium of Universities from the Mt. Kenya East Region, including Meru University of Science and Technology, University of Embu, Dedan Kimathi University of Technology, Kirinyaga University, Tharaka University, and Karatina University, engage in knowledge-sharing, capacity-building, and youth-led climate action. RTI researchers recently developed a set of recommendations for improving land-use planning’s impact on climate outcomes. The basis for these recommendations was a study in Tanzania.
