#ClimateJustice means acknowledging that some communities bear the brunt of the climate crisis. It also means understanding that not every region, institution, or community is equally responsible for past emissions or current lack of action and accountability. Climate justice is deeply intertwined with gender and #masculinities, as climate change exacerbates gender inequalities and impacts those already marginalized the most. Harmful ideas around masculinity prioritize competition, conflict, and economic power, overshadowing the care, compassion, and cooperation desperately needed to address the climate crisis. To create lasting change, we must unite in our efforts to tackle these systemic issues. At MenEngage Alliance, the #ClimateJusticeWorkingGroup connects gender justice, masculinities, and climate justice to elevate these links and shift the narrative. Let's prioritize solutions that uplift the voices of those most affected and meet their needs. It's time for equitable action!

Climate change is not just an environmental issue—it is a profound social justice challenge. Women and marginalized genders are disproportionately impacted by climate change, often bearing the brunt of its effects, from increased vulnerability to extreme weather events to limited access to resources and decision-making processes. Gender justice is integral to achieving climate justice. It means recognizing and addressing the unique challenges faced by women and marginalized communities and ensuring that they have a voice in shaping sustainable solutions. Empowering these voices is important to building resilience and promoting inclusive, equitable responses to climate change. I’m grateful to the CARE Climate & Resilience Academy for the opportunity to expand my knowledge and understanding of these important intersections. Their well-structured framework has equipped me with the tools to contribute meaningfully to this essential cause. Together, we can drive change and ensure that our fight against climate change leaves no one behind. #ClimateJustice #GenderJustice #Sustainability #Resilience #ClimateChange #SocialImpact #InclusiveGrowth

Today, on International Women's Day, let's recognise the powerful intersection of feminism and climate action! 🌍 Recent articles from The New York Times (https://lnkd.in/dZa9Dqza) and UN Women (https://lnkd.in/dfCkP2-v) shed light on how women are not only disproportionately impacted by climate change but also pioneering solutions to combat it. As The New York Times puts it, "Women have been at the forefront of the climate movement for decades, and it’s time to recognize their leadership and amplify their voices." This is shown in a recent UN Women report, which reveals that "Women and girls are key agents of change and their involvement can accelerate climate action." With women making up 80% of those displaced by climate change, yet comprising only 24% of national parliamentarians focusing on environmental policies, there's a clear call to action for greater gender inclusivity in climate decision-making. Research indicates that countries with a higher representation of women politicians, particularly at the national level, are more likely to enact ambitious climate policies. Let's honor the contributions of women worldwide and amplify their voices in the ongoing battle for climate and gender justice. 💪🏽💚 #InternationalWomensDay #ClimateAction #Feminism #Sustainability #NetZero

🌍💪 Interesting for me to know! Did you know that feminist climate justice is a powerful framework for addressing the challenges of climate change? 🤔 Feminist climate justice is a framework that aims to address the #intersection of #genderinequality and #climatechange. It recognizes that women, girls, and gender-diverse people are disproportionately affected by the impacts of climate change and that existing gender inequalities intensify their vulnerability. 🔍The core pillars of feminist climate justice: 1️⃣ Recognition: This pillar focuses on valuing the labor, knowledge, and rights of women in the face of climate change. It includes supporting unpaid care work, combating gender-based violence, and addressing discrimination against women. 2️⃣ Redistribution: This pillar aims to tackle the unequal access that women have to economic resources and opportunities through climate action. It involves redirecting resources towards activities that prioritize the well-being of people and the planet. 3️⃣ Representation: Ensuring women's meaningful participation and inclusion in decision-making processes related to climate change is the focus of this pillar. It seeks to amplify women's voices and incorporate their concerns into climate policies and actions. 4️⃣ Reparation: This pillar recognizes the need for reparations to address historical and ongoing injustices faced by women and marginalized groups due to climate change. It calls for international action to provide compensation and support to those most affected. By embracing these pillars, we can create a world where everyone enjoys their human rights, free from discrimination, and thrives in a healthy and sustainable environment. Let's work together for a more just and resilient future! 💚🌱 #FeministClimateJustice #ClimateAction #Sustainability #GenderEquality #GBV #GenderBasedViolence #ClimateJustice #WomenEmpowerment

*Empowering Women for Climate Action* Climates Change is not Gender Neutral. Girls and women continue to face challenges such as gender inequalities, pervasive patriarchal structures, increased food insecurities and unequal acesss to basic services. It is therefore important that Climate action is gender responsive and transformative. "Women are the backbone of our communities, and their empowerment is crucial for climate resilience." As we work towards a sustainable future, let's recognize the critical role women play in climate action. 📷Image by Oxfam Research Reports #EmpowerWomen #ClimateAction #GenderEquality #Sustainability #WomenAndClimate

Despite increasing attention to Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI), many organizations still grapple with fully grasping the complexities and nuances of the concept. Without a deep understanding of the underlying issues, it becomes challenging to implement effective strategies and initiatives. Moreover, there exists a significant gap between intention and action. While many companies express commitment to GESI principles, translating these aspirations into tangible outcomes remains a formidable task. This implementation gap often arises due to a variety of factors, including organizational culture, resource constraints, competing priorities, and lack of standardized metrics and frameworks for measuring progress. Without adequate resources and buy-in from key stakeholders, efforts to promote GESI may falter or remain superficial. Recognising these gaps, Dutch Fund for Climate and Development has embraced the imperative of advancing GESI in its Origination Facility work. Learn more about our initiatives here!
🌍 Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (#GESI) is an essential component of effective climate adaptation responses. 🤝 Integrating a robust GESI approach in our Origination Facility work helps to ensure better outcomes for disproportionately impacted marginalised groups. CEO, Champions of Change Coalition. Advocate for social justice with a focus on inclusive gender equality.
Consider the double threat that climate change presents for women, particularly those living in poverty-stricken regions. Climate change is disrupting the traditional roles women hold in many contexts, especially in agricultural sectors in developing countries. Here, women bear the responsibility of securing their families’ basic needs and their livelihoods are at a higher risk as the climate becomes less predictable. Although they are greatly affected by these changes, their voices are often sidelined in policy-making discussions around climate change. There's a pressing need to view climate change through a gendered lens, to ensure that women are not just seen as victims of climate change, but as key players in climate mitigation and adaptation strategies. The move for gender-responsive climate action represents not just an act of social justice, but a crucial piece in the puzzle of tackling climate change effectively. #climatechange #genderequality #socialjustice https://lnkd.in/gzK9R3Tx.
