Impact that matters

Over ons

SNV is a global development partner, deeply rooted in the countries where we operate. We are driven by a vision of a better world: A world where across every society all people live with dignity and have equitable opportunities to thrive sustainably. To make this vision a reality, we need transformations in vital agri-food, energy, and water systems. SNV contributes by strengthening capacities and catalysing partnerships in these sectors. We help strengthen institutions and effective governance, reduce gender inequalities and barriers to social inclusion, and enable adaptation and mitigation to the climate and biodiversity crises. Building on 60 years of experience we support our partners with our technical and process expertise and methodological rigour. We do this in more than 20 countries in Africa and Asia with a team of approximately 1,600 colleagues. By being adaptable and tailoring our approaches to these different contexts, we can contribute to impact at scale, resulting in more equitable lives for all.

🚨 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗼𝗽-𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 Devex: 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁'𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗸𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴   Recent cuts from #USAID, #UKAID, and EU countries have laid bare the critical value of global cooperation as well as the need for international development to evolve with the changing landscape.   Climate finance needs in lower-income countries are five times higher than current levels, with adaptation alone requiring US$387 billion annually until 2030. At the same time, early-stage investments in frontier markets face severe bottlenecks, limiting economic growth and resilience.   ✍️ In a new op-ed for Devex, SNV CEO Simon O'Connell and European DFIs - EDFI CEO David Kuijper argue that the challenge is clear, but so is the opportunity. EU institutions must step up to ensure that development finance is fit for purpose in today’s world.   Simon and David see blended finance and aggregation models as important tools to mobilise capital effectively and at scale, while also addressing key challenges and criticisms thereof. Real-world examples—Dutch Fund for Climate and Development, Africa Resilience Investment Accelerator (ARIA), and Invest for Impact Nepal—demonstrate that more effective, collaborative financing is possible.   🔗 Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/exR8-PdX Finance in Common Practitioners' Network for European Development Cooperation

  • 🌊 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗳𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗮 𝗳𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗱? 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆? Climate resilience isn’t just about responding to disasters—it’s about recognising how different people experience and perceive them in the first place. Research from SNV and University of Technology Sydney's Institute for Sustainable Futures in Bhutan and Nepal reveals something critical: gendered experiences of climate events like floods, droughts, and storms, reported even from within the same household, can vary. ❓Why does this matter? Because perceptions shape preparedness. If we fail to acknowledge these differences, we risk designing climate policies that overlook who is most affected and how. Building true resilience means listening to all voices—ensuring that climate adaptation efforts reflect the lived realities of both women and men. 🌐 Read more from this #SNVPerspective guest blog by Jess MacArthur & Juliet Willetts here: https://lnkd.in/dH3vxjPi

Since 2019, BRILHO Mozambique has expanded clean energy access to millions, mobilised private sector investments, and supported socio-economic development and climate resilience. Javier Ayala, SNV Energy Sector Leader and BRILHO Team Lead in Mozambique, accepted the award during a ceremony celebrating energy transition champions across regions - those exemplifying exceptional innovation and leadership. With awards in two categories - Changemakers and Innovators, the event highlighted the incredible impact of individuals and organisations advancing clean energy solutions. On accepting the award, Javier noted: ‘This award is a powerful motivation to keep breaking barriers, driving innovation, and ensuring that clean, affordable energy reaches those who need it most. On behalf of SNV, the implementing agency, I reaffirm our commitment to the continued successful implementation of the BRILHO programme, enabling systemic change and creating meaningful and scalable lasting impact.’ 🌟 Deeply grateful for the support of the governments of the United Kingdom and Sweden, our dedicated team, and the communities leading this transformative journey. From Kenya’s solar-powered cold storage to grassroots advocacy, the key to impact lies in ensuring communities lead their own energy future.   🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/eANZ95ma   #LocallyLed #AccelerateAction GOGLA Dutch Fund for Climate and Development

  • 🌱 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝘇𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 Rural electrification in Mozambique is set to make significant progress with the Swedish government’s commitment of US$11 million to the +SOL Mini-Grid initiative. This initiative supports private sector investment in mini-grid infrastructure, helping to connect under-served communities with reliable electricity. It is implemented in close collaboration with Mozambique’s National Energy Fund (FUNAE) and the Energy Regulatory Authority (ARENE). The project also aims to strengthen governance and build local capacity in the energy sector. At the launch event, Mette Sunnergren, Sweden’s Ambassador to Mozambique, highlighted that energy access is essential for individual and community development - creating jobs, improving living conditions, and enabling education and self-improvement. Simon O'Connell, CEO of SNV, highlighted the systemic impact of this initiative - supporting communities, encouraging entrepreneurship, and contributing to Mozambique’s transition to a more resilient and decentralised energy system. +SOL Mini-Grid Facility marks an important step in Mozambique’s journey towards universal energy access. By mobilising private sector investments and fostering local capacity, the initiative can accelerate progress in delivering sustainable, reliable, and affordable electricity to rural communities. 🌍 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/evvPBhYy #EnergyAccess #RuralElectrification #RenewableEnergy #SEforALLForum
