Conflict zones disproportionately impact women and girls. They face violence, displacement, and the burden of rebuilding shattered communities. Yet, to see them only as victims is a grave misconception. Women are also powerful agents of peace. According to the United Nations peace agreements with greater #female participation are 35% more likely to last at least 15 years. They bring a different lens to peacebuilding, prioritizing human needs like #education, healthcare, and economic opportunity – essential ingredients for lasting #peace. Moreover, when women are at the table, peace processes are more inclusive, reflecting the needs of the entire #society. Therefore, #WDO calls for equal representation of women in peace talks, government bodies, and leadership positions. Let's work together to empower women peacebuilders and build a future where their voices shape a more peaceful world for all. www.wdo-odf.org

Women's participation and inclusion in peace building especially on the continent remains low and there is need to promote their participation for inclusion. Different strategies can be employed to not only include them but also create an environment that encourages their participation. Some of these include; 1. Empowerment and capacity-building: Providing women with training, resources, and opportunities to enhance their knowledge and skills in conflict resolution, negotiation, and peacebuilding can help empower them to actively participate in such initiatives. 2. Establishing safe spaces for women to engage in dialogue, share experiences, and collaborate on peacebuilding efforts can help address the gender-based violence and insecurity that may hinder their participation. 3. Awareness and advocacy: Raising awareness about the importance of women's participation in peacebuilding and advocating for their inclusion in decision-making processes can help mobilize support and resources for their involvement. 4. Building partnerships with women's organizations, civil society groups, and other stakeholders can help create synergies and leverage collective efforts to increase women's participation in peacebuilding initiatives. Personally I have been engaged in different networks fully involved in capacity building for your people in peace building and has provided me with the opportunity to share experiences with different young women from the continent. Great Lakes Youth Network for Dialogue and Peace @Regional Peace Program @Youth In Action Arigatou International have offered platforms where young people engage freely on matters of Peace building. HAPPY WOMEN'S MONTH!

Women are crucial agents of change in peacebuilding. As an impact investor, the evidence is clear: investing in women means investing in peace. Countries with greater gender equality are less likely to resort to conflict, demonstrating a remarkable 35% higher likelihood of effectively honoring and sustaining peace agreements. Women’s participation in peacebuilding initiatives also increases the likelihood of sustained peace by 20%, contributing to longer, more resilient peace. The UN Security Council has even described women’s inclusion in economic recovery as “an essential element” in the pursuit of peace: women are more likely to spend their incomes on family needs and make a larger contribution to recovery. *And yet… post-conflict reconstruction and investment are still dominated by – and overwhelmingly benefit - men.* This underscores the vital role of gender-lens innovative financing tools, such as the Orange Bond. As a new asset class, it's designed to mobilize private capital to accelerate SDG 5 for Gender Equality. As you know, SDG 5 is interconnected with various other sustainable development goals, highlighting the gendered nature of many global challenges. That's why IIX’s Orange Bond Verification Training delves into how an Orange Bond surpasses the conventional structure of existing gender bonds (currently a subset of social bonds). Instead, an Orange Bond serves as a versatile asset class that not only empowers gender equality but also fosters peace, prosperity, and planetary resilience. Applications for our second cohort of the Orange Bond Verification Training Program will open this week! In the meantime, register your interest below and secure a DFAT-subsidized training program fee. https://lnkd.in/g5TFaX47 #OrangeforGenderEquality #orangemovement #impactinvesting #genderbonds #Orangebond #sustainablefinance #innovativefinance

🤝 Despite the recognized importance of involving a diverse range of people in peacebuilding, it remains a pressing issue that many segments of society find themselves on the sidelines of conflict resolution efforts. Notably, youth, often the largest demographic in conflict-affected areas, are frequently overlooked in these crucial processes. 🌱 In our latest #Essential, our expert Dorothea Schiewer explains how youth participation can be improved and implemented in peacebuilding activities. 💙Special thanks to all organizations who participated in the consultations for this Essential and openly shared their approaches to and experiences with youth participation in peacebuilding: Basel Peace Office, Coexistences, Fondation Hirondelle, Helvetas, Interpeace, Mission21, The feminist peace organization Frieda, terre des hommes schweiz, World Vision, Pestalozzi Children's Village, Swiss UN Youth Representatives, and UNOY Peacebuilders💙. 📺 Watch the video below to dive into the topic, and read the full publication here: 👇 https://t.ly/vYoq5
