🌟🌊 Today, we are thrilled to highlight the remarkable success story of EOLOS Floating Lidar Solutions, an innovative technology company that has secured a contract worth over €10 million with the Dutch government. EOLOS will deploy its cutting-edge wind measurement technology off the coast of Rotterdam for two years, a significant step forward in advancing offshore #windenergy. 🎯 This project aims to gather crucial data on wind behavior at distances of 60-100 kilometers from the shore. Such data is essential for the development of future offshore #windfarms, as it helps optimize site selection, design, and operation, leading to more efficient and cost-effective #renewable energy production. 🤝The Dutch government, through its agency Netherlands Enterprise Agency Agency, has granted EOLOS the opportunity to install nine measurement devices in a selected area designated for new wind energy projects. This initiative underscores the Netherlands' commitment to expanding its renewable energy capacity and reducing its carbon footprint. EOLOS was founded in 2014 as a spin-off from a technological research project by the IREC - Institut de Recerca en Energia de Catalunya, EOLOS has specialized in high-altitude wind measurement in marine environments. By leveraging EOLOS' advanced technology, this project will not only support the Dutch government's renewable energy goals but also contribute to global efforts to combat climate change by promoting #sustainableenergy solutions. Our research provides groundbreaking insights into the turbulent inflow and #wake dynamics, important for the future roll-out of tidal #turbine arrays and their #marine ecological interactions. #WindEurope24 ETIPWind Interesting panel with Celine Mahieux (Shell), Katherine Dykes (TotalEnergies), Hanif Mashal (GE Vernova) and Federico Gonzalez Vives (Vestas) They are covering the 4 main areas of investment proposed by ETIP Wind: manufacturing, installation, integration and materials Not surprisingly, project developers such as Shell and DTU are focusing the R&I on grid integration and enabling wind to play better with different end use cases: #powertoX OEM are focusing on improving the #manufacturing and #installation #efficiency. The area of more obvious overlap is on #operation and maintenance improvements My takeaway: we need new perspectives and fresh insights into this industry. Machines are bigger but fundamentally the same as 10 years ago. Wind is at the right point to welcome radical innovations and transformative technologies, such as AI applied to new materials, optimization and decoupling yield from turbine size. I really hope the SpaceX of wind technology will be a European company…but we need to do much more

Some take home messages from EERA DeepWind 2024 It was an interesting opening session where some important aspect of offshore wind development were highlighted. Development of sustainable offshore wind farms requires long term commitment from government, industry and Academia. This was very clear from the presentations in the Opening session – Frontiers of science and technology. My personal favourite from the session was Lena Kitzing's talk about "Contract for difference" . Food for thought! My colleagues Joachim Reuder and Etienne Cheynet chaired a well visited parallel session on Met-ocean conditions. We still need a better understanding of the wind over sea and to develop better tools for wind calculations on various scales! 🌀Marine Centre of Excellence (MEECE) – a fruitful #partnership to improve the #aerodynamic performance of #turbine blades The Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult (ORE) collaborated with Anakata Wind Power Resources, Natural Power, Swansea University and the National Technical University of Athens to develop a streamlined process for designing and optimising the siting of enhanced #vortex #generators (VG) for #windturbine #blades. 🌬Vortex generators are #aerodynamic devices that can be fitted to lift surfaces to create vortices and delay flow separation, with the use of VGs aiming to improve aerodynamic performance for wind turbine blades. 👩❤️👩The #partnership team was particularly interested in addressing the aerodynamically inefficient root region as well as the blade tip, and how the placement of vortex generators at these points can help to counteract the adverse aerodynamic effects of leading edge erosion. 💠More: 🔗https://lnkd.in/gM_pTZBu ➰➰➰ #project #collaboration #aerodynamics #ntua
