#PrideMonth continues as we honor Kim Coco Iwamoto, a Hawaiian politician. Her election as a trans woman in 2006 made her, at that time, the highest ranking openly transgender elected official in the U.S. & the first openly transgender official to win statewide office in Hawaii.

How we talk about #transgenderyouth matters. It shapes perceptions, policies, and the well-being of our nation’s young people. Our research looks at framing we can ALL use when talking about transgender youth to help them grow into healthy, happy adults. One suggestion: Sharing positive stories of transgender youth who get the support and care they need illustrates the importance of affirming policies. Today is Transgender Day of Visibility, celebrating transgender people and their contributions to society. Still, today, we also recognize the need to raise awareness of discrimination faced by transgender people everywhere. At Native Forward, we support the forward movement and work to empower all Native scholars so that they may, in turn, empower and impact individual communities. Let’s take a moment to reflect on how we can make a just society for all. #NativeForward #InternationalTransgenderDayofVisibility

Intersectionality is a key concept in any type of inclusion work. We must acknowldge that many folks have lived experiences and are impacted by multiple types of identities and types of inequity. This is a case where the total impact is NOT always the sum of its parts. Being transgender and autistic, or having a disability and being of an immigrant community. These intersections play a large role in the overall impact on the body and spirit of these folks. It is a nuanced concept, and it adds to the complexity of equity work, but our efforts to meet people where they are will be worth the dividends of having a space and team where all folks are seen and acknowledged for their full selves.
Pride began as a riot led by Black transgender disabled women. Our Pride celebrations today should honor their legacy by being accessible and intersectional. For tips on establishing accessibility during pride celebrations, check out the rest of our pride series! #pride #PrideForAll #a11y #Intersectionality #PrideMonth

#TheMorningInclusive GLAAD’s ‘Here We Are Now’ Campaign In a world where 71% of Americans say they have never met someone who is transgender, the gap in understanding and connection is palpable. This void is often filled with misinformation and harmful rhetoric, creating barriers to empathy and support. GLAAD’s ‘Here We Are Now’ campaign is a beacon of hope and inclusivity, aiming to bridge this divide. The campaign provides a platform for transgender individuals to share their stories, their triumphs, and their challenges. It’s not just about putting a face to the statistics; it’s about humanizing the experiences that are too often relegated to the margins of society. ‘Here We Are Now’ is more than a campaign; it’s a movement. It’s a call to action for all of us to listen, learn, and grow. By amplifying transgender voices, we can begin to dismantle the stereotypes and biases that have long silenced them. We can create a world where everyone is seen, heard, and valued. As professionals, we have the power to make a difference. We can foster inclusive workplaces, support policies that protect transgender rights, and educate ourselves and others. We can be allies in the truest sense of the word, standing alongside our transgender colleagues, friends, and family members. Let’s take this opportunity to reflect on what inclusivity means to us. How can we contribute to a world where every person has the chance to tell their story? The ‘Here We Are Now’ campaign is a reminder that we all have a role to play in creating a more inclusive society. Join the conversation. Share your story. Support the cause. Because here we are, and now is the time to stand together in solidarity. #HereWeAreNow #TransRightsAreHumanRights #Belonging #Inclusion #Diversity #Equity #Accessibility https://lnkd.in/e8ScJsWs

Annually on March 31st, we celebrate Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV) to honor the invaluable contributions of transgender, non-binary, and gender-diverse individuals to our communities, while acknowledging the ongoing discrimination they face. TDOV, established in 2010 by transgender advocate Rachel Crandall, aims to shift focus from narratives of violence to celebrating transgender lives and fostering authenticity. Amid rising misinformation and hate rallies, know that you are not alone. TDOV is a beacon of joy, fostering community and advocating for safer spaces. Within the federal public service, the PSPN and our Action Committees spearhead initiatives supporting transgender, non-binary, and gender-diverse employees. This includes releasing a Guide and collaborating to improve healthcare access. You can find the guide on our website at www.publicservicepride.ca under resources. To nurture community, we've organized: April 3, 11:00 am to 12:00 pm ET – Coffee Chat for Parents and Families of Transgender, Non-Binary, and Gender Diverse People – an opportunity to connect and strategize support. We also invite allies to stand in solidarity. Join us: April 3, 2:00 to 3:00 pm ET – Ally Discussion Space – learn how to support your colleagues. We wish you a beautiful and celebratory TDOV. Your participation and support are needed. Reach out for more information at: PSPN-RFFP@csps-efpc.gc.ca.
