Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19th, marks a significant moment in American history - the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom, two and half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. This day is a powerful reminder of the enduring struggle for freedom and justice. Below are some meaningful ways to honor and celebrate Juneteenth: 1️⃣ Educate Yourself and Others: Dive into the history of Juneteenth through books, films, podcasts, and more. Share what you learn with friends and family to spread awareness. 2️⃣ Support Black-Owned Businesses: Make an effort to shop at Black-owned businesses. This not only helps build economic strength in the community but also supports entrepreneurs who often face significant challenges. 3️⃣ Continue Advocating for Equality: Take time to reflect on the progress made and the work still needed to achieve racial equality. Continue to advocate for policies that encourage equity and equality, so everyone is able to have a seat at the table. Juneteenth is not just a celebration of the past, but a call to action for the future. Let's honor this day with respect, learning, and commitment to building a better, more just society for all. #Juneteenth #YWCAYakima
