We've just wrapped up our 12-month Associate Engineering Program! 🥳 Launched at the beginning of the year, this initiative was a bold step for us. We onboarded 12 amazing South African engineers, fresh in their careers, and going on an ambitious journey together. Our engineering team served not only as mentors but as collaborators, guiding them through their journey into the tech world. Throughout the year, they got stuck into projects, joined various squads, pushed their problem-solving skills, and overall gained super valuable hands-on experience 🙌. The growth we've seen has been inspiring. As they step into engineering positions in January 2024, we're not just celebrating their success but also the growth culture we're building here at Zepz. Below are some quotes from the superstars themselves on their experience. We can't wait to see them continue to excel. 🚀 #lifeatzepz #associateengineers

🤔 Ever wondered what a day in the life of a tech lead looks like at LoopStudio? Meet Renato Cargnelutti, one of our incredible tech leads, who balances leadership, mentoring, and problem-solving daily to keep our projects running smoothly👨💻 Discover Rena’s typical day and discover how he ensures our team’s success: 1. Can you walk us through a typical day in your role as a tech lead? ''My day as a tech lead is a mix of leadership, mentoring, and helping solve technical challenges. I usually start by syncing up with the other tech leads to make sure we're all aligned on our goals. During the week, I have 1:1s with developers to see how they're doing, help with any obstacles, and offer guidance when needed. I also help organize knowledge-sharing sessions to encourage collaboration and growth within the team. I try to be available for any questions or issues that come up, and occasionally, I assist with interviews to help find new team members.'' 2. What are some of the biggest challenges you face, and how do you address them? ''One of the most challenging aspects of my role is finding the right balance between delivering solutions quickly and maintaining high standards of quality. While meeting deadlines is important, I always prioritize building maintainable and scalable solutions that will stand the test of time. Alongside this, defining the architecture to meet new requirements is another key challenge. It's a process that involves extensive research, drafting initial proposals, and collaborating with the team to make adjustments as needed. Both aspects require careful consideration to ensure we're moving efficiently without compromising on the integrity of our work.'' 3. Can you share a recent project or accomplishment that you're particularly proud of? ''The most significant initiative is LoopAcademy, one of our key tech goals this year. It's a program designed to welcome entry-level software engineers into the company and, with the guidance and support of our dedicated mentors, provide them with a safe environment to learn and grow. This achievement wouldn't have been possible without the collaboration and hard work of the entire engineering team. Their continuous support has been crucial throughout this journey, and we're all incredibly proud of how far we've come.'' From tackling technical challenges to launching exciting initiatives like LoopAcademy, Rena shows us how a tech lead drives both growth and innovation 🚀 Ready to hear from more of our team members? Stay tuned for more in our #ADayInTheLife series!

“How’s your first week at Antler?” “People, it’s the people.” 🌟 The first week at Antler, I've stepped into a melting pot of ideas, cultures, and dreams—the likes of which I've never seen before in London. 🌍 Each person I've connected with carries a story that spans the globe—from transformative NGO work in India, to life-changing moves from the lively streets of Austin to the dynamic pulse of Beijing. Each person here has a story that transcends borders, embodying bravery and a spirit of adventure by leaving behind the familiar to embrace the vast unknown. Chemistry, value, vision, personality, skills. We are so different yet so similar. The difference sparks ideas and the similarities help us create lightbulb moments. And that I thought, it’s why people say magic happen when you surround yourself with like minded people and interesting souls. Indeed, as Maya Angelou puts it - "In diversity there is beauty and there is strength." ✨ Expand your luck sphere, from here. #Antler #Innovation #DiversityInTech #StartupLife #GlobalMinds #TeamworkMakesTheDreamWork

This is how I will remember GoStudent : quite the rollercoaster ride with more twists than a pretzel factory. And here's the story. Still reeling from the chaos that COVID unleashed on my career, I got a call out of the blue. "Those guys at GoStudent," they said, "are growing, and you might just be the missing puzzle piece for a Country Manager to open a new market." It hit me like a mysterious shot at a wild party, leaving me wondering how I ended up in a room the next morning. With the support of my epic squad, we kicked off. It felt like a blink of an eye when we'd suddenly grown into a tribe of 50+ warriors! Late nights, smashing goals, bold moves, and hiring top talent — everything was falling into place until reality crushed into us in February. Suddenly being left alone without my crew and a year's worth of progress lost, I found myself in bustling Istanbul. Starting anew as a Strategic Project Manager, I dived into the electrifying world of Data. Guided by the magical Dr. Alfons Priessner, it was a ride of epic learnings, juicy opportunities, and some serious victories. As Christmas neared, I landed in Vienna with my fam, four suitcases, and a very unamused cat. Thanks to Alfons' global strategic team, I never felt unwelcome. I was knocked down by how fun strategy can be, and how rewarding it is, to see your baby projects turning into game-changers. Then there was a page when we worked on the entire Data team, restructuring and rebuilding, optimising and delivering, non-stop. And I almost turned into a true IT person in a year, scrumming, agiling and refining in style (if you told me I would do it just a couple years ago, I would die laughing). Summer heat, July '23, me and Ricardo Reinoso sitting at a coffee, discussing an ambition of re-setting the culture and re-training the global sales organisation to work in a different way, smarter, more data-driven, and focused. Ha, guess how quickly I started with the role of Head of Sales Enablement Learning and Training? Immediately, after the coffee. Again, new team, and again, so much to do, to learn, and so much fun to have! Every step of this wild journey, I was surrounded by professionals - actually, crazy monsters of agility and resilience, restless, fearless, and bold as hell. Thinking of each of you always brings a grin to my face. That's how GoStudent will stick in my mental scrapbook. As this crazy rollercoaster ride comes to a halt, I'm changing my status to "open" to tackle fresh challenges. If you see an opportunity and think about me being a fit, do spread the word, give me a shout-out, or chuck a referral my way. I'm on the lookout for a leading role where my skills to make things happen, and knack for wrangling chaos, will find their parking spot. 🕊

Maximilian Alexander came to Tampa Devs as a Rails Software Engineer intern for Tampa Devs Talent, our home-grown recruiting platform. I knew Max was different from the moment we met. He has all the most important traits of a great programmer: Kindness, curiosity, great communication skills, diligence, humility, and a commitment to craftsmanship. Max’s greatest strengths are his unyielding determination and capacity for growth. Just three days into his internship, Max shipped his first feature into production. Roughly a month later, he was leading the design and implementation of a key new product feature: one that allows Businesses to post and advertise open roles. I’m extremely proud of Max’s accomplishments, and I look forward to seeing the continued growth and success his career has in store. Thank you, Max, for all that you’ve done— and best wishes for the great things you’ll continue to do 🚀 Here’s a highlight reel of some important features Max has shipped over the course of his time with Tampa Devs: • An evolved invisiblization feature to manage spam/abuse, • Improvements to the Business customer onboarding flow, • Squashed a bug regarding developer profile sharing, • Migrated the CDN for user uploaded content (profile photos, banner images, hiring agreements) to new infrastructure, • Launched Developer specialty badges, which are shown on Developer profiles and are searchable, • Helped implement a progressively enhanced combobox for Developer specialty search, and • Improved a series of background jobs we use to sync user data. Tampa Devs Talent is completely open source— so dont just take my word for it. If you’d like to see Max and I in action, check out the repository on GitHub at https://lnkd.in/euv7gNv2.
🌟 Introducing Maximilian Alexander, a recent graduate 🎓 and rising star ✨ in the tech world with a knack for making impressive strides at Tampa Devs. We’re thrilled to showcase his talents and contributions to the tech community as an intern 💪. #CodeBoxx #TechEducation #innovation #personaldevelopment

Ever had one of those conversations that make you think, “Wow, the younger generation is really on to something?” One of our interns recently asked, “Do we have any plans to do good in the world?” It got me thinking on what we’re building here at ZYNGO EV Mobility. One of our prioritized goals is to enhance our SaaS platform to become an essential resource for drivers. Our software streamlines fleet management, reduces downtime, and handles vehicle maintenance in real-time. Plus, it tackles infrastructure challenges by tracking the nearest charging stations, all aimed at significantly boosting drivers’ earnings and productivity. Beyond this, we’re committed to crafting a brand that’s accessible and valuable for both our customers and drivers. We’re focused on making a real, positive impact on their daily lives, and we have miles to go together. How is your company making a positive impact on the lives of those you serve? Let's exchange some ideas and inspiration! #DriverEmpowerment #SaaSInnovation

Navigating Stress and Success in Software Engineering: 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 Parley In the dynamic world of software engineering, achieving success often comes with its fair share of 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨. At Parley, we understand the unique challenges faced by engineers and we're here to share some insights on how to balance the 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙚 with triumph. ① 𝗘𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: Many engineers find solace in continuous learning. Dedicating time each week to explore new technologies not only keeps skills sharp but also builds confidence in tackling complex projects. This approach can transform initial feelings of overwhelm into a sense of 𝙖𝙘𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙞𝙨𝙝𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 and 𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙬𝙩𝙝. ② 𝗙𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗮 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸: Software engineering can sometimes feel isolating, especially during remote work. Regularly engaging in team meetings, participating in tech forums, and even casual virtual coffees with colleagues can help engineers feel connected and supported, significantly reducing 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨. ③ 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸-𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: One effective strategy implemented by a leading fintech company was a 'no meetings' policy on Wednesdays to give engineers uninterrupted coding time. This simple change not only boosted 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙩𝙮 but also allowed the team to manage their workloads better, leading to a healthier work-life balance. ④ 𝗦𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗢𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵: We encourage engineers to seek roles that match their skills and align with their career aspirations. Transitioning from a large corporation to a start-up environment, for example, can provide more responsibilities and lead to greater job satisfaction and 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙛𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙬𝙩𝙝. 🧭 Navigating stress while aiming for success in software engineering is no small feat. By embracing: - Continuous learning - Fostering supportive networks - Prioritising work-life balance - Seeking growth opportunities Engineers can thrive both personally and professionally ✨ At Parley, we're committed to helping software engineers find roles where they can excel and find joy in their work 🤝🏼 Let's connect and explore how we can support your journey to success. --- #PoweredByParley #PartnerWithParley #MentalHealth #Mindfulness #Hiring

The urge to spoon-feed new hires and interns in the name of ramp-up can be tempting. I take the view of letting them learn on their own. By spoonfeeding them knowledge, we can set dangerous unconscious precedents that everything will be available so easily in future. We might end up setting them up for failure. At the same time, each person is unique and needs to be guided accordingly. While certain things definitely require knowledge transfer, most of the things can be figured out by well written documentation, code walkthroughs and design documents with dedicated follow-up Q&A sessions. As an engineer we might prefer an in-person session explaining things over figuring things on our own, but believe me the latter is more beneficial.

Joining a new organization in a Senior Engineer role? In my career, I have met a lot of Senior engineers who have joined startups as Staff Engineers. Coming from FAANG most of them feel like they are moving from "small fish in a big pond" to a "big fish in a small pond". This is my step-by-step plan for the perfect onboarding. Take notes diligently from day one. Every conversation and insight counts. This foundation will serve you exceptionally well. My mental model for onboarding at this level is “junior to staff speedrun”. - Try and perform as a junior engineer on day one. Fix some bugs, improve CI, all of the small work tasks. Show the team you don’t have an ego and want to help, this builds trust. - Then take on a mid-level meaty project, nail it. - Then do a senior-level project, nail it. This should be easy for you, but now you have some real subject matter expertise in the new space and trust/credibility to take on a staff-level project. By following this approach, you'll not only excel in your new role but also establish yourself as a valuable asset in your team's journey.
