[ICYMI] In a unified stance, parliamentarians from 20 African nations are urging the African Union and member states to adopt a bold and inclusive approach to transforming agrifood systems over the next decade. With CAADP and post-Malabo initiatives facing challenges in national implementation, Jeremy Lissouba, Secretary General of African Food Systems Parliamentary Network, notes that the 10 per cent agriculture budget allocation, while a victory, is insufficient to meet the continent's needs. CNBC Africa's Tabitha Muthoni spoke with Lissouba, SG, African Food Systems Parliamentary Network (AFSPaN) for further insights at the Africa Food Systems Summit 2024 in Kigali, Rwanda. Yara CEO on Food Systems Transformation in Africa The Norwegian-African Business Association (NABA) through conversations facilitated by Lanre Akinola, continues to highlight various interest groups and companies and their business engagements in Africa. This time, Svein Tore Holsether, after nearly ten years of consistent focus and personal engagement on the continent, shares some of his insights and perspectives. Some Key Messages: Joining the African Agenda: We must all support the evolving new African agenda for a new crop nutrition paradigm. Increased productivity is crucial to achieve real transformation. But it must be scalable and sustainable in every way – for society, the farmer and for the environment. Going forward, the focus on soil health will increase significantly. Business Lens on Agriculture: We need to progressively sharpen the business lens on African agriculture, transforming it into a much more progressive and value-creating sector rather than predominantly a sector for managing food security and poverty reduction. Innovation and Change: The transformation of food systems will require changes and innovation on several fronts. Africa's youth are driving much needed change and innovation in agriculture. This needs to continue. The enabling environment is not yet fully developed to support the necessary progress that African agriculture needs. Despite the complexities, no place in the world is more important and exciting than Africa in the context of global food systems thinking. https://lnkd.in/dPDP68PB

AFS Forum Kigali 2024 Africa Food Systems Forum Urges Innovation, Investment for Food Security ************************* As a youth advocate attending the Africa Food Systems Forum 2024 in Rwanda Kigali, I call for urgent innovation, investment, and political commitment to transform agriculture and ensure food security across the continent. We have highlighted a range of persistent challenges, including inadequate policy frameworks, poor coordination and delivery mechanisms, climate change impacts, infrastructure deficits, fragmented markets, food loss and waste, and limited access to innovation, technologies, and investment. The Forum emphasized the urgency of accelerating efforts to transform Africa’s food systems, driven by the looming deadlines of the Sustainable Development Goals in 2030 and the Malabo Declaration in 2025. Innovative policies, digital technologies, and scaled investments are essential to achieving food and nutrition security while creating jobs for the continent’s growing youth and women populations, according to the AFS Forum 2024, which attracted over 5,000 participants, including policy makers, agribusiness investors, farmers’ organizations, private sector representatives , and youth. The AFS Forum serves not only as a platform for discussion but also as an accountability mechanism, with stakeholders expected to uphold their commitments and take concrete action to drive the transformation of Africa’s food systems. Today we celebrate the International Food Day. This is a global event that emphasizes the importance of food security, nutrition, and sustainable agricultural practices. This day serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges related to hunger and malnutrition, which are particularly significant in Africa. The continent faces a myriad of issues, including poverty, climate change, and conflict, all of which contribute to food insecurity. By observing International Food Day, nations are encouraged to reflect on their agricultural policies and practices, aiming to create a more sustainable food system that can nourish their populations. In Africa, the relevance of International Food Day cannot be overstated. The continent is home to a large number of people living in extreme poverty, and millions suffer from hunger and malnutrition. Events and campaigns on this day raise awareness about these issues and promote initiatives that support local farmers, improve food production, and encourage the consumption of locally sourced foods. Furthermore, the day highlights the importance of sustainable agricultural practices that can help mitigate the effects of climate change, ensuring that future generations have access to nutritious food. The significance of International Food Day extends beyond awareness; it calls for collective action. It encourages governments, organizations, and individuals to work together to address food security challenges. By fostering partnerships and sharing knowledge, Africa can develop innovative solutions to enhance food production and distribution. This collaboration is vital for achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 2, which aims to end hunger, achieve food security, and promote sustainable agriculture. As we celebrate International Food Day, let us commit to taking action that ensures everyone has access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food. IT IS EASY, WITH AGROEASE! . . . . #Agroease #Agribusiness #Agritech #InternationalFoodDay #FoodSecurity #SustainableAgriculture #Africa #EndHunger
