The Chair of the Zero Hunger Coalition, Ibrahim Mayaki had the honour of speaking at a session, Catalyzing Policy Action for Sustainable and Resilient Agriculture and Food Systems, during the Hamburg Sustainability Conference. As Dr Mayaki notes, poverty lies at the heart of hunger. Many food systems are designed in ways that perpetuate inequalities and do not address the root causes of hunger, such as economic marginalization, lack of access to land, and unequal distribution of resources. Hunger is a political issue, not merely a technical challenge. To transform food systems and achieve zero hunger, we need ⏩ Political will ⏩ Policy reforms that promote fair access to resources and ensure opportunities for the most vulnerable ⏩ Innovative financing mechanisms 💡 The Zero Hunger Coalition is actively pushing this agenda forward, building synergies across regions and stakeholders to combat hunger through collective political commitment. 🌍 Benin food systems pathway 👣 Through national dialogues, Benin has addressed critical challenges in agriculture, nutrition and resilience to external shocks. These discussions now guide Benin's journey toward food systems transformation. 🤝 Coordinated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries (MAEP Benin), with support from the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) and the Zero Hunger Coalition, the national dialogue in Bohicon in June 2024 identified priorities for the national food systems pathway. This followed the first dialogue held in 2021, which produced an initial report that was not validated. 🙌 Françoise LEMA SAYI (GAIN Benin) and Francine Picard (Shamba Centre for Food & Climate) guide us through the priority pathways from the follow-up dialogue and reveal what the success of this transformation depends on. 📑 The full blog: https://lnkd.in/efs6Jkqq #FoodSystems #Benin #SDG2 #EndHunger Dossa Aguèmon Dedegbe Dominique Aubierge Flénon Aboua Léonce DOSSOU Irene DJENONTIN FAO Clément Edah Ambassade du Royaume des Pays-Bas au Bénin Ambroise AGBOTA ELISÉE MAHOUSSI Alfred Acakpo Dieu-donné KONNON Waliou AMOUSSA HOUNKPATIN Nadjib ZAKARI ALLOU World Food Programme UNIVERSITE D'ABOMEY GIZ Bénin The World Bank

Taking #ClimateAction through agrifood systems presents a unique opportunity to address all at once multiple global and local challenges, making it imperative that actors around the world exchange their experiences and information to foster a world with better solutions for hunger and human resilience. “Advancing climate actions through sustainable agriculture and resilient food systems,” a side event hosted by FAO, Azerbaijan, Italy the United Arab Emirates and the The World Bank on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly provided a platform for all Member States to present actions they have implemented to enhance their agrifood systems and to share their perspectives on what can be achieved at #COP29, the next international climate summit, and related fora. “The science is clear,” said QU Dongyu, FAO Director-General in his featured intervention at the round table. “The consequences are evident.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/dHMhuqq3 #HarmoniyaInitiative
