🌍 We are excited to be part of round two of P4G Partnerships, collaborating with Aifa Foods in the fight against post-harvest loss! Together, we're addressing food loss and waste by introducing innovative post-harvest technologies and improving supply chain coordination from farm to market in Ethiopia. Through CAREs partnership with Yarashoo Agro Industry, we will strengthen the market for dried fruits 🍑 and vegetables 🥕 in Ethiopia and expand into international dried food markets while supporting Yarashoo to be more investor ready. The expected impact will be: ➡️ Higher incomes for smallholder farmers 💰 ➡️ Less post-harvest loss 🌾 ➡️ More jobs for women and youth 👩🌾👨🌾 This initiative is part of the new round of P4G Partnerships, accelerating food, water, and energy transitions in key countries. #PioneeringGreenPartnerships #SustainableAgriculture #PostHarvestInnovation #FoodSecurity #WomenEmpowerment #YouthEmployment #Danida Udenrigsministeriet

Today, we celebrate #WorldFoodDay2024! 🌍🥗 This year’s theme, ‘𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐁𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞,’ emphasises food as a fundamental human right and highlights its immense impact on our lifestyles and future. It calls for diversity, accessibility, and concerted efforts to end the global hunger crisis. In Kenya, where hunger affects nearly 12% of the population, initiatives like Food For Education, founded by Wawira Njiru, are making a real difference, feeding school children for as little as Ksh. 5 per day. Globally, organisations such as FAO and World Food Programme (WFP) are leading the way, championing sustainable food production and advocating for policies to ensure access and affordability for all. At RBC, we understand that sustainability in food systems is critical for a better life and future. Join us at our upcoming Susty Dialogue Series to engage in conversations around sustainability. Starting the day with an extra-strong coffee! ☕️ As finalists in the SCTA Next Gen Sustainability Contest, 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 #𝗰𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝘀 #𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁, #𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 #𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝘆. 𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂'𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗹, don’t miss Louisa Marie Truß on stage 𝗮𝘁 𝟭𝟰:𝟬𝟬 𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹, 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿! For those who can’t make it, here’s a quick intro to what we’re all about: We want to introduce to you Enid, a second-generation coffee farmer from Uganda. Like 98% of farmers in Uganda, she lacks health insurance. When medical emergencies hit, families like hers face tough choices: skip care and risk death or sell everything they have to cover medical costs. This cycle deepens poverty and disrupts the entire coffee supply chain, from lower productivity to increased child labor. We are changing this story. We've partnered with ACPCU LTD in Uganda to create a health program that gives farmers access to essential care via our offline-first digital platform. Beyond health, this program helps make ACPCU’s cooperative more attractive to suppliers, integrating sustainability and resilience into their operations. It’s a win-win for farmers and the entire coffee supply chain (see more here: https://lnkd.in/dTVwGYDE) We believe that healthcare is a human right and that investing in people’s health is the most impactful way to build resilience in supply chains. After all, without healthy people, there is no farming—and no future for coffee. 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘃𝗼𝘁𝗲 so we can fuel the future of coffee farming communities with this innovative approach to health and sustainability. Make sure to say Hi to Louisa to learn more and stay tuned for the results and a full recap tomorrow

Hello, LinkedIn community! I’m excited to introduce FoodSaver Africa, an initiative aimed at tackling food waste across the continent. Our mission is to connect surplus food suppliers with those in need, reducing food waste and enhancing food security for millions. In Africa, 30% of food produced is lost, contributing to hunger and economic loss. FoodSaver Africa is here to change that narrative. By fostering partnerships with food banks, retailers, NGOs, and local communities, we aim to create a sustainable solution that not only saves food but also saves lives. Our work directly aligns with SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), emphasizing the need to reduce food waste and promote sustainable practices. If you're passionate about reducing food waste and improving food accessibility, let’s connect and collaborate. Together, we can create a hunger-free future for Africa! #FoodSaverAfrica #FoodWaste #Sustainability #Impact #FoodSecurity #SDGs

🌍 Today is the International Day of Awareness on #FoodLoss and Waste Reduction! Did you know that inefficiencies in the food #supplychain, driven by excessive intermediation, not only make food more expensive in low-income neighborhoods but also result in significant #waste? Alex Robayo, Deputy Country Director of World Food Programme #Peru, introduces Nilus, a #tech startup also supported by the WFP Innovation Accelerator. Nilus is on a mission to reduce #foodwaste and eradicate hunger by lowering the cost of healthy food for low-income communities. 🥗 They tackle supply chain inefficiencies through disintermediation, food rescue, and community group buying. Currently operating in #Argentina and #Mexico, Nilus is now expanding into Peru in collaboration with #WFP Peru. 🌽 Click the link in the comments to learn more ⤵ #ZeroHunger #FLWDay #Sustainability

I am motivated by #Hope of a better, fairer, peaceful, safer, equal and healthier #future – for our #people and our #MotherEarth.
World Food Day celebrated every year on the 16th of October provides an occasion to highlight the plight of more than 870 million undernourished people in the world. Hunger is something that must not be neglected and it can happen to virtually anyone, anywhere – even in the richest countries. Nobody in this world deserves to live a life of hunger. Every human being on the planet has the right to be free from hunger and the right to have sufficient food on their plates – three times a day – every day. Creating a #zerohunger world by 2030 is no small task but possible with small changes we can all make. To achieve it, we must adopt a more sustainable lifestyle, work #TogetherAsOne to ensure everyone, everywhere, has access to the safe, healthy and nutritious food they need, share our knowledge and be willing to help change the world – for the better. Over the past year or so, we have been sharing how signatories of our South African Food Loss and Waste Initiative have been actively implementing strategies to reduce food loss and waste. These efforts are aligned with the United Nations Office for Sustainable Development (UNOSD) Goal 12.3 to halve food waste by 2030. Here are some achievements we can celebrate: - Indalo Inclusive South Africa NPC has implemented the Indalopreneur Food Waste and Loss Enterprise Support and Grant Programme to support entrepreneurs in addressing food insecurity and sustainable consumption. - Inseco converts organic waste from across the supply chain into insect-based proteins, oils and fertilisers that can be used in livestock feed, pet food and crop production. Their facility can divert 40 to 50 tonnes of food waste each day. - The Tiger Brands Food and Nutrition Programme provides food to 30 000 people monthly and supports other needy people weekly with food donations. They donated approximately 367 tonnes of surplus or near-dated food to SA Harvest. We will keep sharing these exciting initiatives and their achievements in the coming months. Join us in our efforts to reduce food loss and waste by 2030. #CGCSA #FoodLoss #FoodWaste #FLWInitiative
