Last week the World Public Health Nutrition Congress (#Wphn2024) in London, was a great opportunity to engage with a diverse group of experts dedicated to reshaping food systems for a healthier tomorrow. The commitment and innovative ideas shared will undoubtedly pave the way for Healthier People and Healthier Planet. Sharing my top 3 takeaways: - Nourishing and Amplifying Leadership in Public Health Nutrition: Transforming food systems starts with leading from where we stand. Some of the initiatives like the Africa Nutrition Leadership Program (#Anlp) and The Next Gen(D)eration Leadership Collective are setting standards and inspiring change. - Investing in School Meals: Our future consumers are in schools today. Investing in school meals offers a chance not just to cultivate healthy eating habits early on but also transform food systems by focusing on sustainable supply chains. Lessons from successful initiatives in Brazil and India are invaluable. - Harnessing Power: We possess the power to transform food systems (The Power within). By working together (Power With), empowering the most vulnerable (Power To), and addressing negative practices (Power Over), we can create can a healthier, more equitable food system for all. Let’s drive change together! #PublicHealth #NutritionCongress #HealthierFuture #Sustainability Regina Keith Claudio Schuftan Samantha Nesrallah Johann Jerling Christine Taljaard-Krugell Corinna Hawkes Elaine Borazon Ana Clara D. Leadership, governance, and action: the key ingredients to combat malnutrition. 🌱 Earlier today, the Zuellig Family Foundation (ZFF) hosted the webinar, “Nourishing Minds, Nurturing Lives: Insights from ZFF’s Nutrition Governance Program” via Facebook Live. Gathering around 130 participants, the activity aimed to introduce ZFF’s Nutrition Governance Program, Pook Malusog, and to explore the importance of strong and driven leadership and governance in addressing the problem of malnutrition. Dr. Joyce Ann Viar, ZFF Nutrition Portfolio Director, led the discussion, followed by Dr. Ma. Esmeralda Silva, Professor at the Department of Health Policy and Administration of UP Manila College of Public Health, who tackled nutrition governance in Sarangani. Invited reactors, Dr. Catalino P. Dotollo Jr. of the National Nutrition Council Region VIII and Ms. Blessile G. Par of the Manila Water Foundation, agreed with the presenters that good governance, action leadership, multi-sectoral approach and political will and support are at the heart of nutrition efforts. Mr. Austere A. Panadero, ZFF President and Executive Director, in his synthesis, called upon leaders to reexamine their systems and advocated for nutrition to be considered as a “major development outcome that local governments through their leaders would want to address and improve.” 👉 Catch the replay here: https://lnkd.in/gsJDvNKE #ZFFWebinar #PookMalusog #ZFFNutritionGovernance #ZuelligFamilyFoundation

Hola! Welcome to Wednesday Episodes on Nutrition with Blessing Ibitayo. Grab your notepad and pen, and let's dive into an engaging and informative discussion about nutrition and health. Today's topic of discussion is - #Food; A #Human #Right Food is considered a human right because it is essential for #survival and a #fundamental aspect of human #dignity. When we say "food is a human right", we mean that: 1️⃣ #Everyone deserves #access to enough food to lead an active and healthy life. 2️⃣Food should be nutritious, safe, and #culturally appropriate. 3️⃣Food is a #basic human need, not a privilege. This "right" is crucial for health because: ¶ Food #insecurity can lead to #malnutrition, chronic diseases, and #mental health issues. ¶ Access to healthy food can #prevent and manage health conditions like diabetes, heart disease, and some cancers. ¶ Food is #essential for #growth, #development, and overall well-being. The right to food is recognized in several international human rights instruments. For instance, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) states in Article 25 that everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for health and well-being, including food. Additionally, the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR) explicitly recognizes the right to adequate food and the fundamental right to be free from hunger. LIFE APPLICATION: Food is a basic human need, not a bargaining chip and "everyone" deserves a seat at the table. Let's ( #individual, #organisations, #government ) work together to ensure everyone has access to nutritious food. World Health Organization World Food Programme The World Bank NAFDAC Nigeria FAO United Nations US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Research Service (ARS) UNICEF Thank you for following through. Don't forget to drop your comment on what you've learned. See you next week on this platform. #timetolearn #wednesdayepisodesonnutrition #nutrition #health #healthygoal #linkedin #newpost #government #international #hunger

Last week Danielle travelled to Edinburgh to such a fantastic event that she wrote a blog about it! The event was the Food Stakeholder Impact Group Workshop for the UKRI funded FIO Food Project which is focused on food insecurity in people living with obesity. The aim of the day was the co-production of policy and clinical recommendations, with a significant focus on lived experience. The key takeouts are noted below, but check out the full blog for a greater insight into what went on. 1. 🌎 How a change of geographic location fostered new perspectives. 2. ⚖️The importance of an equitable, lived experience-led approach. 3. 🛠️Co-production method – find out about a simple validated tool that is free to access. 4. 💷 "Moralising food” - it’s real and it's tough. What are you supposed to do when affordability and minimising waste are more immediately important than nutrition? 5. 🙏Dignity in practice – embed dignity principles in your work, and pay attention to the small details. 6. 👊If you have agency, use it wisely and with awareness. You can access a full range of references and resources in the blog post - link in comments #foodinsecurity #nutrition #foodpolicy #healthpolicy #livingwithobesity #cocreation #livedexperience #dignityinpractice #collaboration #clinicalpractice #coproduction #equity #FIOFood

Evidence Navigator for Transformative Change: Evaluating the Impact of Food Security and Nutrition Interventions
I cannot express how much I enjoyed moderating this panel on scaling food systems interventions, with a focus on the private sector. A big thank you to Jenny Walton, Sneha Kanneganti, and Meera Shekar and a big congratulations to the #ScallingComminityofPractice for their successful Annual Forum. I encourage you all to check out their great work. For those who need a TLDR version of the webinar: Speakers advocated for a united approach among governments, businesses, and NGOs to transform food systems into sustainable, health-centric networks. They argued that common goals already exist, but the language and collaborative approaches necessary to facilitate partnership may be lacking. Nonetheless, each speaker provided examples of the creation of shared values and common purpose. Together, they proposed a shift towards cooperative engagement as a potential catalyst for redefining global nutrition strategies, turning them into a collective journey aimed at achieving better health outcomes for millions worldwide. https://lnkd.in/ecTpTXpf

Let’s follow this project and share information about progress made.
In 2023, the IHS Produce Prescription Pilot Program (P4) awarded grant funding to five tribal communities to develop 5-year produce prescription programs. The purpose of the P4 is to help reduce food insecurity and improve health care outcomes among American Indian and Alaska Native people by increasing access to produce and other traditional foods within Native communities. Each pilot program is unique in their delivery and implementation of their P4 activities. As we celebrate Nutrition Month, let’s acknowledge the efforts and impact of all nutrition programs serving tribal communities: https://lnkd.in/eJSn29hA #NativeNutrition #NutritionMonth #NativeHealth #IndianCountry

🌱Last Tuesday, IDF Europe held a webinar together with APDP Diabetes and Fédération Française des Diabétiques (FFD), presenting the final results of the Healthy Food Healthy Planet supported project: Eat Better, Live Better. 🥑 Rogerio Ribeiro from APDP showcased the project’s results which showed that greater inclusion of plant-based foods in diets holds clear benefits for people living with type 2 diabetes and others. 📈 Marie-Laure Mourre from the FFD talked about the role of #socialmarketing to support behavioural changes and how different approaches might be necessary depending on the level of health literacy and health empowerment of audiences. Lisandra Ribeiro took behaviour change from theory to practice by showing that culinary workshops like those done as part of the project can increase health literacy and uptake of #plantbased diets. 🍏Claire Chambrier from the French Agency for Research and Information on Fruit and Vegetables Aprifel emphasised the value of co-production and collaboration in increasing #healthliteracy. 👩⚕️Sofia Rodrigo Rodrigues from APDP provided the perspective of a healthcare professional and talked about the importance of promoting a plant-based food diet that aligns with cultural cuisines. Marie Laure Ludemiluna from AFD 13 gave her perspective as a person living with #diabetes who also changed her diet to being predominantly plant-based, highlighting the challenges of such a transition, such as the potential over-reliance on processed plant-based food. ⚖️Rafael Pinto reflected on the changes needed in the EU political and legislative sphere to support healthier diets, such as funding schemes, carbon pricing and fair fiscal policies. Elisabeth Dupont from IDF Europe showcased the urgency to act on diabetes to lower the risk of life-altering complications. We thank all presenters for sharing their expertise and being an integral part of this webinar's success!

Led by the Food Research & Action Center (FRAC), with funding from the RWJF, the New Jersey Food Security Initiative (NJFSI) is a three-year cross-sector, collaborative, community-centered effort to increase food security and nutrition, and advance health equity in New Jersey. The Center for Nutrition & Health Impact served in multiple support roles during the planning phase (2021–2023) and is now leading evaluation efforts. CNHI staff recently completed a report that reflects on a community-engaged evaluation planning process. Some takeaways from the report include: ⏱️ Consider implications of timing with intervention planning activities and clarify the link between the evaluation and initiative activities 🌐 Prepare for learning a new landscape and establishing relationships with local networks 🎯 Emphasize and nurture group forming and cohesion around a shared goal and partnership norms 📈 Co-develop norms for working with the evaluation co-design committee and efficient processes for moving the work forward 🫱🏼🫲🏾Accommodate needs to ensure all co-design committee members can fully participate in activities Read the full report and more about the project at: https://lnkd.in/gnFD-xdn

We’re the first and only organization in our county dedicated to plant-based nutrition and preventive health. Rooted equips county residents with the knowledge, confidence and resources to take a leading role in their health by prioritizing, preparing and enjoying whole plant-based foods to lower risk for chronic diseases, reduce medical expenses, medications and food costs, and improve quality of life. We carry out our work as a collaborative hub, partner, and resource for healthcare practitioners and direct service organizations through: 🍓 Low to no cost, bilingual, plant-forward nutrition and food skills education programs and support, 🥕 Healthcare training, and 🥬 Community collaborations that ensure inclusivity and accessibility, healthy food access, and culturally relevant support. In order to support a shift where the healthiest choices become the easiest, most common, enjoyable and accessible choices, we took everything we learned from building our foundation and incubating programs and partnerships in our first years of development and last year we partnered with WEV to build a well-informed long-term business model. There isn’t a playbook for the work we’re doing so we built it. We’ve launched the Take Root Campaign to raise $500,000 to set this model into motion, funding a foundational staff team who can implement and lead our long-term vision.💫 Every gift of every size makes a difference.
