Dear Friends,

I hope you were able to watch even a short sample of the incredible athleticism and great collective spirit on display at the Paris Olympics – including Team USA medal winner Gabby Thomas  who received her MPH last year. Closer to home, Team FPHNYC is diligently training for the November 5 TCS NYC Marathon. Our runners this year are fundraising to support the Health Department's maternal health programs which provide crucial services to thousands of NYC families. Please continue to support our Team as we get closer to race day.

August is Immunization Awareness Month , a perfect time to remind everyone about the importance of keeping your vaccinations up to date. Vaccines are a cornerstone of public health, protecting our communities from preventable diseases. To make it easier for all New Yorkers to access these life-saving vaccines, the Health Department offers the NYC Vaccine Finder , a helpful tool for locating vaccination sites throughout the city.

As we look ahead to the fall, I’m excited about the continued progress and impact we’ll make together. And as a reminder, we’re always looking for passionate individuals to join our team. If you or someone you know is interested in making a difference, we encourage you to explore our current career opportunities .

Here's to a productive and inspiring fall season!

Sara Gardner ,

Chief Executive Officer

HealthyNYC Update

Enthusiasm for HealthyNYC and the aim of improving the quality and length of New Yorker's lives continues to grow with companies and organizations from the public and private sectors committing to a variety of actions in support of the campaign. In July, FPHNYC collaborated with the Northeast Business Group on Health on a webinar, featuring NYC Health Commissioner and FPHNYC Board Chair, Dr. Ashwin Vasan. Watch a recording of the webinar and learn more about how your company or organization can become a partner of HealthyNYC .

New Blog Post! Help on the Corner, at the Bus Stop, and in the Park: The Community Support Network

Daily stress is a reality for many New Yorkers, and finding someone to talk to isn’t always easy. The NYC Health Department’s Community Support Network (CSN), launched in August 2023, is addressing this by providing communities with compassionate, knowledgeable people to talk to. The program has already made a significant impact, connecting individuals with essential resources and helping to reduce the stigma around mental health.

To learn more about how CSN is fostering healthier communities and the role it’s playing in New York City, read the full article here .

Poster-Perfect Public Health

Congratulations to our NYC Reach/Department of Health colleagues who were invited to present a poster about the Continued Access to Vaccination (CAV) program at the 2024 National Immunization Conference .

With funding from the CDC, the New York City Health Department launched the CAV program to ensure equitable access to vaccines, including COVID-19, flu, and routine childhood/adult vaccinations. With assistance from FPHNYC, the Health Department partnered with health centers, providing them with operational funding, federally funded vaccines, and practice facilitators to support immunization infrastructure.

Between July 2022 and June 2023, CAV sites administered 34,212 influenza vaccines and 24,256 COVID-19 vaccines, including 16,999 COVID-19 boosters. A quarter of those vaccinated were uninsured. Over 65% of COVID-19 vaccines were administered to New Yorkers residing in TRIE neighborhoods.
