On 20th & 21s October NWG are delighted to bring Gavin McKenna, the founder of Reach Every Generation, back with a training course highlighting the issue of crime and violence and how it is affecting young people.

Please note that this training day has been split into the following two sessions;

• 20th October 2020 - 09:30 to 13:00

• 21st October 2020 – 09:30 to 13:00

Delegates will receive an update on general awareness and be advised on specialist knowledge relating to personal experience. Moreover, this training has a focus on practical elements of supporting young people who are vulnerable, at risk, caught up in crime, serious violence, and criminal exploitation. We are aware many have had general awareness training and endeavour to offer something with this course that goes beyond this awareness, stretching the hearts and minds of those on the frontline.

The training will focus on;• Emotional and Psychological impact of gang involvement (Personal experience) • A deep dive into the mindset and daily life of a gang member (Personal experience)• County lines – scouting process • Styles of approach • Case scenario exercise• Specialist strategic work with youth caught up in crime and serious violence • Multi-agency approach • Ways in which young people responded during pandemic (good and bad)• Working with hard to reach young people• Hope and Opportunity

Learning objectives • Best practice when working with youth caught up in crime and violence • Bringing strategic approach to work • How to offer hope and opportunity • Assessing cases individually (bespoke approach)

Learning Outcomes• Staff will feel more equip to work with young people involved in crime and violence • Staff will have updated knowledge • Staff will be able to approach cases differently • Professionals will feel more empowered to bring about change
