Do you know your North Star for your organization?

Most of my colleagues and readers know that I'm addicted to success. I plan, adapt, and move to achieve the success I envision for myself, my company, my employees, and the society. And if you'll ask me where to start on your journey to success whether personal or organisational, it is to find your north star. But wait, "how does that apply to your organisation?", you may ask.

The "north star" is a set of priorities that an organisation can use to align its people, strategies, and procedures. The leader of a company has virtually defined what "success" will look like when they have set clear priorities. It is then simpler to decide which efforts or programs are necessary and which are not, and to allocate resources in that way.

Asking each member of the senior management team to create a list of the organization's top five priorities for the upcoming one to three years is one technique to check if your company has distinct priorities. You can determine whether the team members are on the same page once you've compared their answers. If so, the next thing to check is if the organisation-wide communication of the priorities is effective. If not, you may want to jump on a strategic planning session with your leaders to determine your north star or set of priorities.
