Are you facing a lot of stress right now?

As a #businessleader I am no stranger to stressful situations. Changing market conditions, plans that did not push through, supply and demand issues, employee quitting -- all of these and more can make us feel stressed and powerless.

But what if I tell you that you can use stress to your advantage?

Yep, you heard that right. You can use stress to navigate through the current climate. You see, setting priorities is always important to success. And what does our stress do? Our stress reaction will make it clear what needs our immediate attention and what can wait until our more stressful responsibilities have been finished. We feel like we have control over our situation when we know what our priorities are and take care of them as they come up. Not only do we feel relieved once we finish our more pressing worries, but even more importantly, we feel a profound sense of accomplishment. Nothing motivates us to keep working harder than a sense of accomplishment.

When managed well, #stress can also trigger increased potential. If we are under stress, there is a challenge that we must use as motivation to alter the foreseen outcome, get more knowledge, attempt something novel, or move past a setback in order to seize a new opportunity. The stress that results from facing a challenge can act as a competition for us at any given time, regardless of what that challenge may be. Either we can defeat our rival, or we can give in to it. The way forward becomes immediately evident when we consider our options.
