3moI had not been paying much attention to the world as I was heads down working on some other items. I just became aware of the global CrowdStrike event on the Windows world. Granted that things can happen. It is how we prepare for these that make us valued leaders. This raises process related questions. 1. How did this make it to production without controlled client testing? 2. If disaster recovery is in the form of Active-Active (suspect this model given current events) then should updates not be controlled in a manner that keeps the required capacity online while using a rolling successful update confirmation prior to implementation on another server? a. If CrowdStrike is in control of this rollout process then what the heck… 3. Noted that many airlines seemed to be affected suggesting that there may be a multi-tenant scenario on a given software platform. a. To this vendor, I would seriously be looking at my infrastructure vulnerability and revisit the third-party risk assessment. If we solely rely on another vendor’s software and have not performed the due diligence of vulnerability along with appropriate mitigation, then we are as guilty as this vendor for not being as thorough as we should have been
