How to search for IT talents on LinkedIn

LinkedIn has long taken its rightful place in the ranking of always relevant tools for IT recruiters. It is well-deserved because this social network was not only designed for networking and finding new business contacts, whether colleagues or potential candidates, but also has several convenient services for recruiters.

Therefore, today, we share how an IT recruiter can organise an effective recruitment of tech talents and search for developers on LinkedIn.

Avoid adding too many new contacts per day.

LinkedIn provides the option to acquire premium access, which is particularly valuable for recruiters. However, note that despite the increased connection limit compared to the basic version, there is a risk of temporarily suspending your account if you exceed certain thresholds. Unfortunately, it does happen — the best way to avoid this is not to get too carried away with making your friendlist bigger, even when using the paid version.

Allow candidates to apply for job openings on LinkedIn.

Sometimes, IT specialists forget to switch on the open-to-work icon, but at the same time, they may be actively looking for a new job. Even if the candidate is in the passive search and does not actively consider job offers, you can still try to start a dialogue — it is quite possible that they will be interested in the vacancy.

Join relevant LinkedIn groups.

LinkedIn has a lot of recruiting and job placement groups in many IT industries, from game development to software development: post your vacancies there.

Use InMail carefully.

LinkedIn explicitly states in its Recruiter Mail Policy that InMail should not be used for mass messaging, invitations to numerous events, or running marketing campaigns. Recruiters usually do not launch marketing campaigns, but it is better to pay attention to the point of mass mailings and not abuse them. The best option is to wait for the candidate to confirm the addition and start a dialogue. Even when reaching out to multiple candidates and using a template, customise your message to make it unique for each recipient. This personalised touch helps avoid the impression of a generic mass mailing and increases the chances of building a genuine connection with the candidates.

Post job openings on your page.

As a rule, recruiters quickly gain 500+ connections, a fairly voluminous friend list. It can and should be used: don't forget to share posts with vacancies on your page. Ask the feed to share the post; doing so will expand its reach, potentially exposing it to individuals who could be relevant candidates.

Use LinkedIn-compatible extensions

For example, it may be an extension of your CRM system in which you lead candidates. When a professional has expressed interest in further communication and given consent for their data to be retained, it's efficient to add them to your Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system. Many CRMs provide browser extensions that streamline this process by automatically populating the candidate's information from LinkedIn. This time-saving feature allows recruiters to allocate more time to other recruitment tasks.
