Effective solutions to tackle postpartum bleeding will help more women have a safe birth and a healthy future with their families.

Major breakthrough: Lifesaving solution dramatically reduces severe bleeding after childbirth

A new trial promises a significant breakthrough in preventing deaths from postpartum bleeding, which is the leading cause of maternal mortality globally. Following the intervention, severe bleeding after childbirth was reduced by more than 60%.

Born too soon: Of every 10 babies born, 1 is preterm – and every 40 seconds, 1 of those babies dies

Preterm birth is now the leading cause of child deaths, accounting for more than 1 in 5 of all deaths of children occurring before their fifth birthday. Preterm survivors can face lifelong health consequences, with an increased likelihood of disability and developmental delays. Action is needed urgently to improve the prevention of preterm birth, alongside better care for affected babies and their families.

No matter when or where they’re born, babies Born Too Soon deserve every chance to survive and thrive. They need the right care before, during and after childbirth.

Great to see World Health Organization tackling these tough issues head-on. Let's all be more alert to signs of abuse, especially in trafficked individuals. And hey, the decline in mpox cases shows that together, we can make a difference! Let's keep it up!
