Metro Pride! Operator Johnathon Futch selected as Grand Marshal of 2022 Pride Parade

Pride Month celebrates the history and accomplishments of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer communities throughout the world. For Metro Operator Johnathon Futch, Pride 2022 is an opportunity to lead the celebration as one of the Grand Marshals of Seattle’s 48th Annual Pride Parade through downtown Seattle Sunday, June 26.

Selected to represent the essential workers on the job throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Johnathon received his ceremonial sash at Metro’s Central Base from Community Grand Marshal Gaysha Starr.

“This is a great honor, representing so many communities in one parade,” said Futch. “There were so many essential workers, workers who didn’t hesitate to stay with their jobs because they knew they were providing vital services. I’m proud to represent my Metro family, and very proud to help celebrate and recognize those in the LGBTQIA+ community who helped perform these services every day.”

June is LGBTQIA+ Pride Month

It’s a month of remembrance, growing acceptance, and the continuing challenges that many lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer residents face in becoming full participants in society. Metro will show its LGBTQIA+ Pride all month, starting with raising the Pride Flag at Metro Headquarters in downtown Seattle, along with raising the flag at all our Metro bases. Our Ride with Pride bus will also be out on the road.

After being canceled for two years, the theme for this year’s parade is “Family Reunion,” celebrating the return of the annual event, and the celebration of the LGBTQIA+ family.

The 2022 Pride Parade is Sunday, June 26, starting at 11:00 a.m. The route will be along Fourth Avenue from Fourth and Pike, ending at Second Avenue and Denny Way. For more information on the parade and Pride Month, go to the Seattle Pride webpage.
