New Year...New You...New Job??

New Year....New You!

What do you want this new year to hold related to your job search??

Many of us start the new year with all kinds of resolutions…”I will do xyz to get healthy, smarter, better connected, take care of myself, my family”…on and on. Everything with the best intentions, but honestly, how many times do we forget about those good intentions by the time February rolls around?

For those of you who are in a job/career transition, this is a chance to “brand” yourself anew. Take a fresh look at who you are professionally, where you want to be in 5, 10, 15 years…what job role do you want to hold?…what industry do you want to work in?

“Employers are beginning to dismiss online job postings as ineffectual in identifying candidates who not only fit the job’s skills requirements, but the organization’s culture...they want to learn more about you, so they are increasingly turning to social networks to interact with potential candidates even before positions become available.”*

So, in addition to having a resume that gets you in the right doors, makes sense when you get there…and one you feel good about how it represents you…how does your online presence represent you? Are you looking forward or only in the rearview mirror?  Is your LinkedIn profile at “All Star” status? Are you checking it on a regular basis and using it to network too? How about Facebook?…certain that you don’t have anything on there that you don’t want a prospective employer to see. Are you on Twitter? Pinterest? Wherever you choose to show up, make sure your brand is professional, compelling, and consistent…and looking forward to your future goals!

What about your Marketing Plan? Do you have it mapped out? What is your value-add in the marketplace and what roles are you seeking, short term and for the longer term? Are you comfortable with your answer to “Tell me about yourself” and how you can customize to different situations? What are your targeted industries and companies?

With the New Year right around the corner…choose how you want to show up and where do you need to show up.

Consider hiring a Career Coach as your partner during this time of transition. We offer a wealth of experience and a sincere desire to assist you. Also, lots of resources online to access….get prepared and:

Best wishes for a very Happy Holiday and fabulous New Year!!
