Word of the Year
As we approach the end of 2024, it's natural to think about the events that have shaped the year and to consider what to expect from the future. The question of whether the year is pessimistic or not can be subjective, depending on individual experiences.
The year 2024 has been marked by significant events: Wars, the reversal of flexible working policies by major companies, the ongoing vulnerabilities in China's banking sector, and the unexpected twists in the US presidential election have all contributed to a sense of uncertain.
On the technological side, the lack of significant progress in AI regulation highlights the challenges involved in emerging technologies.
Despite these problems & challenges was it a bad 2024?
I was listening to the radio, while driving my truck to collect components from our suppliers. “what is the word of the year?”
This was the theme. A lot of people called, a lot of pessimistic word. War , death, lack of job, poverty, hunger, fascism, etc.
The Oxford University has declared 'brain rot' as the WOTY (word of the year) 2024.
'brain rot' = the apprehensions surrounding the overconsumption of low-quality online material, particularly on social media platforms.
In Italy the Italian language institute Treccani chose Word of the Year: 'Rispetto' - Respect.
We surely need this word, we need respect, empathy, understanding.
My son's best friend, a six year old of a Malian family chose as word of 2024 :"Pompone", everyone in the class is using "Pompone" everywhere as an adjective.
Pompona school, pompone friday, pompone Christmas, everything is pompone.
I have looked for this word: Pompone is a type of motorcycle, and a flower. But I guess that this kid just invented it.
