About us
ADU is the leading forum for Australian-African business and government relations and was first launched to raise awareness of Australia’s interests in African mining and energy. The three-day meeting has evolved to become the largest African-focused mining event held outside the continent itself which is reflected by the number of high-profile participants who attend each year. Since our inaugural conference in 2003, ADU has showcased many success stories about Australian companies and organisations working across Africa. ADU is a must attend event for those with projects in Africa and for people and companies interested in investing or doing business in Africa. In addition to creating a melting pot for pro Africa-Australia relations, ADU forms the principal pillar of “Africa Week”, Australia’s weeklong celebration of the strong and growing business, social and cultural ties between Australia and the entire African continent. “Africa Week” comprises a full week of satellite events on research, education, infrastructure, sustainable development, capacity building, energy, movies and the arts. Join us on 4 – 6 September for the 22nd edition of ADU, when Perth once again asserts its position as a global capital for African mining, as well as the driving force of African-Australian relations.

Member for Balcatta, Minister for Mines and Petroleum; Ports; Road Safety; Minister assisting the Minister for Transport
It was a great pleasure to be able to welcome a large contingent of Honourable Ministers, Excellencies, High Commissioners, Ambassadors and many distinguished guests from Africa to Perth for the 22nd edition of Africa Down Under. This long-standing Conference is testament to the strength of Australia, and in particular Western Australia’s, enduring partnership with Africa. It clearly speaks to the endowment shared by both WA and Africa in hosting an abundance of natural resources, including critical minerals. While we acknowledge the connections we have through our natural resources, we must also highlight how important our cultural ties are. In 2023, there were over 4,300 student enrolments from African nations in Western Australia in 2023. Meanwhile, there are more than 100,000 Western Australian residents who were born in African countries, which is around 20 per cent of African‑born residents in Australia. The relationship between WA and Africa continues to blossom and there is no better example of this than the long, successful history of Western Australian companies having interests in African mining projects, and African companies having interests in the State. Congratulations and thank you to Paydirt Media Pty Ltd for hosting this important gathering. I look forward to the next

Before the Africa Down Under conference wrapped up in Perth last week, Dominic Piper from Paydirt Media Pty Ltd caught up with CEO Brad Rogers to discuss the ongoing success of the world-class manganese mine Tshipi (Jupiter 49.9%). Operating since 2012, Tshipi has consistently delivered reliable #manganese production, averaging around 3.4 million tonnes of ore sales annually over the past five years. This year, Tshipi exceeded expectations, closing out with 3.55 million tonnes in sales. 📽 Tune in to learn more about Tshipi and Jupiter’s strategic move into the EV battery market , by converting lower-grade manganese ore, currently stockpiled at Tshipi, into battery-grade manganese. 🔌 🚘 https://lnkd.in/g-UF9Kc4
