Have you heard about plans for an ‘Invisible Mine’ at Kapunda in South Australia?🪄 EnviroCopper Managing Director Leon Faulkner, recently hosted SA Manager Peta Abbot at South Australia’s first copper mine at Kapunda (est.1844), sharing plans for a second life through Copper InSitu Recovery (ISR). That means limited land disturbance and retaining the historic mine site as a tourism asset while extracting Copper through a ‘no-dig’ ISR process with minimum environmental footprint. It might sound like magic, but EnviroCopper are leading the way in ISR technology through collaboration with Universities and research institutions for this novel mining technique.🔮 And because everything old is new again EnviroCopper are based in the heart of town at the Kapunda School of Mines est.1860. Approval processes and timelines are a regular area of concern for AMEC members. Recently, CEO Warren Pearce discussed this with Oliver Gray from Mining.com.au - saying, “Government departments that are tasked with approvals are often working as fast as they can, but in many cases they are under-resourced while dealing with a significant number of applications.” “Unnecessary duplication also exists between departments, and between the state and federal jurisdictions.” Also part of the article are some interesting numbers from a report published in August by the Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DEMIRS), in relation to mining environmental approval (MEA) applications.
