We had a great time at the 111th Annual Northern Navajo Fair, Youth Day and Elder Fest! Our community outreach specialists and tribal liaisons handed out 650 bags filled with Blue Bear laminated placemats, coloring books and stickers to children at the event. They also provided essential Medicaid information and invited members to an upcoming Native American Advisory Board meeting.

We had a great time at the Pueblo of Laguna Feast Day Parade and Annual Feast Day. Over 2,000 attendees came from all over New Mexico and Arizona. In addition to dancing, there were over 250 booths selling jewelry, arts, crafts and food during the celebration. The New Mexico Department of Health provided flu shots in our Care Van and our Medicaid outreach team provided Medicaid education and health information at the event.

“I’m grateful for the opportunities and humbled by all the chances I’ve received,” Matthew Pettit says. “The No. 1 thing that keeps me going is recognizing that there’s so much need for help, and that when I needed it, it was there for me. I’d like to pay that forward. So when someone else needs it, I’m there for them.” Matthew, a Medicaid member, faced up to seven years in prison before he received a break that would change his life. Because of the support and care he received from our Transitional Living Services Program, he turned his past struggles with addiction into a successful career as a drug counselor.
