"I do this for my mom, who died from breast cancer. The money we raise might be just a drop in the bucket. But that drop can make a ripple. And that ripple can make a wave. And that wave can make a tsunami until we find a cure.” - Darryl East, aka DJ- D-Man, founder of Beats for a Cure. Beats for a Cure is an award-winning annual virtual music marathon that raises funds for breast cancer research and support for those currently affected by breast cancer during the month of October. With the support of more than 100 DJs and streamers, Beats for a Cure has raised $135,000 and counting for Cleveland Clinic‘s Taussig Cancer Center over the past 4 years. Learn more about how you donate to support this year's event, which is scheduled to take place on Friday, October 25: https://lnkd.in/gfwyK2cB Learn more about Darryl's story here: https://lnkd.in/gc7iSpAi #clevelandclinic #breastcancer #communityfundraising #GivingDoesGood

Giving comes in many forms. For Jennifer Ellis, the gift of organ donation changed her life in more ways than one. Shortly after Jennifer was born, her family learned she had a genetic condition called situs inversus, where organs in the chest and abdomen develop in a reversed anatomical position. Situs inversus is frequently seen in a disease called primary ciliary dyskinesia that affects cilia, which are tiny hair-like structures that help your body clear mucus – leading to recurring respiratory infections. Jennifer, a former Ms. West Virginia, started noticing her condition worsen in 2015 when she was preparing for the Ms. America Pageant. A few years went by, and she eventually needed oxygen therapy to breathe. In 2018, Jennifer says she was hospitalized 10 out of 12 months. Her local doctor referred her to Cleveland Clinic, where she ultimately received a life-saving double-lung transplant. Jennifer says she’s incredibly thankful to her donor, Jill Ellis, whose family reached out to her after the transplant. Jill’s family ended up traveling from Wisconsin to West Virginia to meet Jennifer in person. That’s when she met Travis. She recalls feeling an instant connection. By keeping in touch, Jennifer and Travis got closer. He went on to propose in July 2023, and they were recently married in September 2024. Jennifer is motivated to stay strong and live the fullest life she can with the gift of Jill’s lungs. She’s passionate about sharing her story with the hope others will make the decision to become an organ donor. “Jill saved six lives by becoming an organ donor. That to me makes her a hero, and who wouldn’t want to do that? What better way to have your legacy live on,” asks Jennifer. Forbes Magazine recently sat down with Rohit Chandra, PhD, Executive Vice President and Chief Digital Officer at Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Chandra oversees information technology, which includes data, analytics, and AI, and leads digital innovation throughout Cleveland Clinic’s global health system. "We believe that the thoughtful implementation of AI will enable us to scale healthcare to more patients in need, with greater safety and quality, and a better patient experience. We also believe it will lead to higher efficiency for our clinicians, allowing them to spend more time caring for patients; however, we need to be very careful about how we implement it,” says Dr. Chandra. On Sept. 28, Cleveland Clinic Florida caregivers joined together in the fight against cancer. More than 30 caregivers participated in the inaugural Cleveland Clinic Florida for the Cure benefiting VeloSano event by walking or running a 1.5-mile loop at Tree Tops Park in Davie, FL — and volunteering or donating. “Supporting VeloSano has brought us all together as a community in support of a great cause. We are all motivated by the same purpose — to support cancer research in order to save more lives and reduce the burden of cancer. Everything has a beginning, so we feel proud Cleveland Clinic Florida is now part of this very special movement that started many years ago in Cleveland, OH, giving hope to so many,” shared Zeina Nahleh, MD, Regional Chair, Hematology-Oncology and Vice Chief, Cancer Institute. Three Florida teams were established this year and they are already looking forward to announcing future plans for 2025 and beyond regarding Cleveland Clinic Florida for the Cure events and initiatives to support VeloSano. #clevelandclinic #VeloSano #cancerresearch #CleClinicCancer #GivingDoesGood
