  • If your child is stung by a bee, expect a few tears, as well as pain, itchiness, redness and swelling around the site of the sting. Symptoms often last for a day or two. It’s not unusual for signs of irritation to extend across a wider area, too. (A sting near an ankle can lead to swelling up the leg, for instance.)🐝 In rare cases, bee stings may lead to anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction that demands immediate emergency treatment. If your child has allergies to other things (such as pollen and dust) or has asthma, it might be worth talking to your pediatrician about allergy testing during bee season.👩⚕️

  • When it’s hot out, there’s an increased risk for active children to develop a heat rash, especially if they’re playing outside, overdressed for the weather or wearing clothes that don’t allow their skin to breathe. These factors may increase the amount of sweat on your child’s skin, which then increases the chance of a heat rash developing.

  • We recently hosted our second annual Heart Center Family Fun Day at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo! This celebration is aimed to provide a sense of community for our heart patients and their families. Caregivers also joined in the fun! The day was filled with games, prizes, raffles, face painting, dancing, lunch and even some surprise visits from zoo creatures.❤️🐢

  • A sprain involves a ligament that’s stretched or even torn within a joint (such as an ankle, knee or wrist). A popping sound may be heard when the injury occurs. Any pain, tenderness or bruising is usually focused around the affected joint. For treatment, follow the RICE method. On average, it takes at least two weeks to recover from a mild sprain. Contact a healthcare provider for a checkup if your child's pain continues or worsens over time. https://cle.clinic/3VwYrLC

  • Scenes from Baseball Day at Handwriting Camp!⚾ Our occupational therapists implemented a variety of fun sensory and movement activities into the day's activities. In addition playing t-ball, the kids hung out with "Mat Man" to promote body awareness, practice right vs. left orientation and learn drawing skills. Way to go, team!🧢🖌

  • Don't let the pigeon drive the bus! Mo Willems’ creations are coming to life on main campus. Some of Mo’s popular characters now cover the construction fencing outside Cleveland Clinic Children's as we build our new Neurological Institute building. Patients and visitors at our children’s outpatient center can enjoy the vibrant artwork when they look out the window. The Art Collection team facilitated this artwork because Mo's characters are so recognizable. The characters also depict various feelings from glee to frustration, which the Art Collection team thinks will resonate with patients who experience many emotions throughout their care. Tell us which character you're most excited to see!
