As we reflect on 'Building Minds: A Conference on Mental Health in Construction,' we're overwhelmed with gratitude for everyone who made this landmark event in West Michigan possible. It was truly inspiring to witness contractors, unions, professional associations, and mental health advocates step away from their demanding schedules to unite for a common cause. This first-of-its-kind gathering brought together diverse perspectives to tackle a critical issue: breaking the stigma surrounding mental health in the construction industry. The collaborative spirit and shared commitment demonstrated at this conference mark a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to prioritize well-being within our field. We extend our thanks to our knowledgeable speakers who shared their experiences and insights, enriching our understanding of mental health challenges in construction. Josh Zoerhof, Mark R. Dyke, CM-BIM, LEED AP, LPC and Sean Egan Thank you for the team to make this happen: Sharlene Organ, MA, LLPC, CBSP, ADAC, Monica Robbins, MA, LPC, ADAC with Michigan Rehabilitation Services, Rachel Austin with Barton Malow, Meg Mathis with Dan Vos Construction Company Inc., Walter Christophersen with IBEW Local 275, and Jason Khoury with West Michigan Works!. A special thank you to the wealth of practical tools and information provided by our partners who came support mental well-being in our industry. Mental Health Foundation of West Michigan, Heart of West Michigan United Way (2-1-1), Safe Haven Ministries, West Michigan disability Awareness Team (DART), Collaborative Counseling Group, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services, and Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) Lastly, The Kent County Health Equity Council and Hispanic Center of Western Michigan for the grant funding to make this event possible! #ConstructionSuicidePreventionWeek #breakthestigma #mentalhealthinconstruction
