This is free, and should be a great discussion on the intersections of rule of law, democracy, and civic awareness.
Join the ABA Task Force for American Democracy and Troutman Pepper on July 25 for the first of a 3-part CLE series that will explore a lawyer's unique role in supporting fundamental elements of American democracy. The first session will educate lawyers on the concept of the rule of law, how it serves as the foundation of our democracy and how lawyers have a unique opportunity and obligation to support and defend it. With #ruleoflaw front and center in U.S. news coverage this week, our executive director, Elizabeth Andersen spoke about the WJP Rule of Law Index with Chance Seales of Scripps News. The Index shows that constraints on government powers have been eroding around the world, including in the United States. Andersen said there is work for all of us to do to strengthen checks and balances, which include the courts, the legislature, and the media. And she noted that in a democracy, citizens hold the ultimate check on authority through elections. Explore our data and join the conversation on strengthening the rule of law both locally and globally: https://bit.ly/4cTOrnA

We took the train to Springfield for the Illinois Council for the Social Studies spring conference--a venture downstate that was absolutely worth the trip. Tiffany Middleton and Christina Pluta managed an exhibit table and led two breakout sessions. Took the train back with Thinking Habitats Dr. Florian Feucht and now we're friends.
