About us
LEAP (Leadership, Engagement, Acceleration & Partnership) is a groundbreaking Digital Health Hub, catalysing innovation, research, and collaboration in the South West of England and Wales. Funded by the Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and led by the University of Bristol, the Hub is set to revolutionise the region's digital health landscape. Our aims: Increase digital health capability across the region through leadership, engagement, acceleration & partnership (LEAP) Create new opportunities for training, research, innovation and collaboration Address unmet health and social care needs for across South West England and Wales Unite 50+ regional, national and international partners Bringing together five leading regional universities, including the University of Bristol, University of Bath, the University of the West of England (UWE), Cardiff University, and the University of Exeter, along with Health Data Research UK (HDRUK), LEAP aims to build on the strengths of each of the Hub’s institutional partners to offer unique opportunities for training, research, and partnership in digital health. The Hub’s Skills and Knowledge programme will offer a portfolio of training courses for professional learners. We will also fund pilot projects and fellows through Research and Fellowships programmes. We will also host regular networking events and workshops across the year. Hub members will have opportunities to meet, form relationships and share ideas. These events will help to shape the future of digital health across the South West of England and Wales.

The schemes: ▪️ LEAP HDR UK Black Internship Programme The Health Data Science Black Internship Programme is in a milestone fifth year, with over 300 interns completing the programme so far. We are looking for organisations and teams working in health data within LEAP to host interns for 2025. Funding is available for the internship stipends. ▪️ LEAP PhD Fellowships In 2025, the Hub will be launching a PhD Fellowship scheme. We have funding available to support organisations to host PhD students for placements during the Fellowship period. 📢 New West of England Commercialisation Academy: Free eight-week programme for health and care innovators Supporting health and care innovators increase uptake of their products in the NHS, we are launching a exciting new training programme in partnership with Triple Chasm. Starting on 10 October 2024, the West of England Commercialisation Academy is a free eight-week programme designed to support innovators who are seeking wider adoption and scale of their solutions across health and care services. Successful applicants will join weekly workshops guiding them through the development of their strategic commercialisation plans. The programme is based on the Triple Chasm Model®, which provides a holistic data-driven framework, devised following research into around 3,000 products taken to market. Innovators, companies and VCSEs with an adoption-ready health and care innovation with some level of early traction, ideally already selling into the NHS, based anywhere in the UK can apply.
