What does it take to lead R&D organizations in the age of AI?
This was explored at this year’s Product Development Summit in Barcelona, hosted by Rafael Westinner and André Rocha. Over 25 Chief Technology Officers, Heads of R&D and Engineering, and Chief Innovation Officers from leading companies across automotive, aerospace, defense, industrials, semiconductors, high-tech, MedTech, and more discussed AI’s impact on R&D – from accelerating product development to driving innovation and increasing business growth.
During the event, we heard from technology and industry leaders about boosting product engineering with AI, overcoming engineering simulation challenges, and leveraging gen AI in product and software development for added value capture.
Key takeaways included:
▪ Deep learning technologies have expanded the art of the possible in simulation and analytics, enabling early adopters to gain insights, identify and fix issues earlier in the cycle, and accelerate testing and validation.
▪ Gen AI holds immense potential; many companies have launched initial pilots and aim to position themselves as “fast followers” while evaluating their scale-up strategies.
▪ A clear AI use case roadmap grounded in tangible business value—along with foundational capabilities and change management—is vital for long-term success.
