On this #ModernMakerMonday, meet Modern Maker Timothy Kelley. Tim used to work as a sales rep for a moving company 🚚 , but he had a hidden passion for science fiction, particularly Michael Crichton. When his old science teacher suggested he apply for an apprenticeship at Advanced Regenerative Manufacturing Institute (ARMI) | BioFabUSA, he jumped at the chance. Tim now helps scientists with experiments using stem cells. He's earned a Biofabrication Technician Certification and a Cell Culture Skills credential from University of New Hampshire-Manchester. 🧪🔬 Tim believes anyone can get into regenerative manufacturing. Many talented people want to help build careers in this field. He's inspired by the idea that his work could help millions of people get the organs they need. On this #MFGDay, we would like to introduce you to Modern Maker Jennifer Jones, a super smart student and a huge K-pop fan! 📚🎤 She's earning a PhD in environmental science and policy at Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and she's passionate about making clean energy accessible to everyone, especially Native American communities. During Jennifer’s frequent visits to help her grandmother in remote Arizona, there was no electricity or running water in their hogan, a traditional Navajo hut. Her family relied on fossil fuels for heating and cooking. Jennifer felt the impact of these energy burdens and started pursuing studies in environmental and renewable energy to help her community. She's even working with the newest Manufacturing USA institute, Electrified Processes for Industry without Carbon (EPIXC), to develop cleaner energy technologies. When she's not studying or saving the planet, Jennifer loves going to K-pop concerts and exploring new cities. She's dreaming of seeing her favorite group, BTS, in South Korea next year! 🇰🇷 Meet Jennifer: https://lnkd.in/e79KRKpt #MFGDay24 #ModernMaker #AdvancedManufacturing #MFGUSA #ManufacturingCareers

Modern Maker Isaac Sloan, MBA was frustrated with the slow pace of climate action in high school. Realizing that economics was a big part of the problem, he went on to earn an MBA with a focus on sustainability and carbon management. During a summer internship with IACMI – The Composites Institute in 2019, Isaac helped evaluate a new way to recycle carbon fiber. ♻️ He wanted to see if it was better for the environment than the old methods. His work on this groundbreaking project led to his undergraduate honors thesis. Today, Isaac is a Clean Energy Deployment Fellow at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). He helps spread the word about programs that fund energy-saving projects in schools and nonprofits. Isaac believes that businesses can make a big difference in tackling climate change, and he's committed to using his skills to help make that happen.
