The ASU SolarSPELL Initiative received the "best in show" award at the SXSW festival of technology and culture earlier this month! What role can artificial intelligence play in sports? Arthur Daemmrich, the director of the Consortium for Science, Policy & Outcomes at Arizona State University and a professor of practice with the School for the Future of Innovation in Society at ASU, recently published a piece for The Conversation U.S. that dives into the use of automation in baseball. New technological advances in ball tracking have opened new opportunities to challenge or confirm whether an umpire's call was correct. Jill Stein is a master’s student in the School for the Future of Innovation in Society at ASU and a design innovator with over 30 years of experience in merging fashion, technology and sustainability. She also leads The Box Project, through a grant from the Humanities Lab at Arizona State University, to tackle fashion's sustainability challenges. Stein collaborated with Professor Kosak's ASU Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts ASU FIDM  students to transform deadstock materials into revolutionary designs. Her immersive Fusion on First exhibition confronts fast fashion's environmental impact while promoting conscious consumer choices. "Just being in the fashion industry, when you get exposed to how the sausage is made, you really start to see the underbelly and how disturbing it is," Stein said. "I'm the kind of person where I have to do something about it. I also want to be on the right side of history." As part of the “Culture, Technology and Innovation in the American Southwest," 25 Hiroshima University undergraduate students visited Arizona State University to explore topics around culture, technology and innovation in the America Southwest.   Accompanied by 1 professor and 2 staff, the students are also in study groups, comparing university life at ASU with their experiences. While at ASU, the students attended multiple lectures from School for the Future of Innovation in Society at ASU faculty members and received tours of spaces like the Walton Center for Planetary Health.   Last summer, the partnership sent 12 ASU College of Global Futures and Thunderbird School of Global Management students to Hiroshima University to explore the role of AI in future work and society in Japan. Caleb Casey, a senior studying innovation in society through ASU Online, was recently highlighted in his hometown's newspaper, Colorado Hometown Weekly. Casey traveled to Hiroshima last summer with a group of Arizona State University students from the ASU College of Global Futures and Thunderbird School of Global Management. The students participated in the inaugural “Japan–U.S. Global Leadership Program in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” cohort in Japan and had the opportunity to study the impacts of AI on society. A group of faculty and students from the School for the Future of Innovation in Society at ASU joined about 2,500 people from around the world at the Dubai Future Forum just before the new year.  At the forum, thought leaders, students and experts gathered to discuss and collaborate on a vision for an interconnected, thriving and sustainable global future. “Our students learn how to translate innovation into action with public value, and the Dubai Future Forum is a natural place to see that skillset in action,” said Eusebio Scornavacca, director of the School for the Future of Innovation in Society. “Engaging with such a diverse range of voices allowed us to envision innovative pathways toward a sustainable and inclusive future.” Read more in this recent article https://lnkd.in/gbz3A-4N
