About us
SEC4TD (Securing tailings dam infrastructure with an innovative monitoring system) is a European project co-funded by the EIT Raw Materials. SEC4TD will develop an integrated end-to-end (E2E) solution composed of three hardware and software innovative products for mining operators and service providers that will enable multi-scale multi-platform data collection and visualization, events prediction, effective information management and data traceability. SEC4TD will connect the physical and digital world to take advantage of the recent ICT innovations to support safety and sustainability concepts for tailings dam monitoring.

The prototype was successfully implemented in the KGHM CUP use case in Poland and is now being tested to meet the highest standards of performance. Key tasks which allowed reaching this goal: - System integration planning: Connecting modules according to established system architecture. - Technology stack selection: Choosing programming languages, databases, frameworks, and libraries. - Module function definition: Outlining functions and data manipulation for each module (forecasting, factor of safety with data augmentation). This successful validation underscores project progress and sets a strong foundation for future developments. 🔍An important milestone was achieved in ArcelorMittal´s Use Case Tailing Dam located in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The monitoring system has been successfully updated and real-time data is now being sent to the data management layer based on Worldsensing's Connectivity Management Software (CMT Cloud). Current SEC4TD installation includes a wide variety of sensors which allow the measurement of different aspects of the tailing dam safety: tiltmeters, weather station, piezometers, and water level sensors. #tailingdams #EIT #RawMaterials #monitoring #mining #TSF

#SEC4TD aims to minimize the possibility of tailing dam failures and the release of toxic metals in the environment and communities. Through novel, advanced monitoring systems the modernization of operations will signify the dawn of a new, safer era for tailing dams and the local communities, cultivating the long-needed trust between people and industries. SEC4TD solution will go through Life Cycle Assessment #LCA, performed by the National Technical University of Athens #NTUA who will assess the benefits of these risk mitigation actions from an environmental, economic and social perspective. Monitoring the safety of tailing dams in #mining is the primary application of the advanced solution developed through the SEC4TD Project, funded by EIT RawMaterials. 📢 Last week all partners gathered for a plenary meeting hosted by Geoteko in Warsaw, Poland.
