SUSHEAT harvests renewable energy & waste heat to replace fossil energy for industry. The concept integrates solar energy, ambient (as a reservoir) and industrial waste energy, which will be upgraded by an innovative High-Temperature Heat Pump (HTHP) working with helium, running in parallel with two novel bio-inspired Thermal Energy Storage (TES) tanks. The concept is completed with the smart Control & Integration Twin (CIT) system based on AI. The SUSHEAT pilot rig will be developed in leading EU labs and finally assembled, demonstrated and validated at a Technical Readiness Level (TRL) of 5 in a leading Swedish lab. The project is funded by Horizon Europe under the CINEA programme. Grant Agreement No 101103552.

I have had another go at this tantalising topic--Industrial Heat Pumps and breakthroughs in temperature and creative ways of linking them up with other technologies like solar and storage. It is technical, but the benefits are not--they are tangible. All in all it is about stepped up climate action but also about how humanity handles its natural resources and grid infrastructure better. Forbes has featured Enerin’s industrial heat pump installation at Pelagia in an article by Nicholas (Nick) Nuttall titled “Cutting Industrial Emissions by Saving Energy—Heat Pumps to the Rescue”. 👏 This is the first time a picture has been shared of our HoegTemp Pelagia installation. Enerin’s CEO, Arne Høeg, is interviewed in the article which highlights the potential of high-temperature heat pumps to store and use thermal energy in a more efficient way that results in less energy consumption. This would support shortfalls in electricity grid capacities and infrastructure. The article examines the massive potential for industrial decarbonisation combining high-temperature heat pumps and thermal energy storage on Horizon European projects SUSHEAT and I-UPS. I-UPS will develop a First-of-a-kind (#FOAK) heat pump working with Kyoto Group's Heatcube integrating solar energy storage from RPow. 📢 Clean Industrial Deal: EU focus on energy costs is right call to boost heat pumps The European Commission’s new Clean Industrial Deal and Affordable Energy Action Plan highlight the importance of industrial decarbonisation and lower electricity costs—key drivers for heat pump adoption. However, these plans fail to fully recognise the critical role of heat pumps in energy security, industrial competitiveness, and the path to net zero.
