About us
For nearly a decade, the TEEX Testing & Innovation Center (TT&IC) has focused on facilitating rapid identification and implementation of innovation in the Public Safety and Homeland Security ecosystems. TT&IC works to advance both technology and policy, as well as build and sustain collaboration between organizations. This is accomplished by leveraging the knowledge, experience, world-class facilities, and direct access to practitioners within TEEX and research scientists within the Texas A&M University System to become a premier resource for both emerging and established public safety technologies.

In collaboration with Purdue University, TEEX has administered a web based (MGT 480-W) and VR based (MGT-492-W-VR) course, titled “Cyber Security Awareness and Strategies to Enhance Resilience of Recovery and Response Operations During Disasters”. This course aimed at establishing an artificial intelligence-based program targeted to assist response and recovery efforts from cyber-attacks. The integrated AI allowed the course to modify content based on the user's participation. The course was active from July 2023 to August 2024 and funded by FEMA. During this time, 190 students successfully completed this course learning cyber resilience, awareness, and incident management strategies! This course is now closed. Learn more! #TestingTuesday from TEEX TT&IC! FLAIM Trainer From September 2022 – February 2023, operational testing was performed on FLAIM Trainer System which is a virtual reality tool that provides immersive fire emergency scenarios to train and recruit fire fighters. The FLAIM Trainer System’s performance and suitability for training were analyzed using a wide range of testers with different experience levels, data and observations obtained on the system’s functionality, and comprehensive system scenarios encompassing real-world environments. Drones are revolutionizing incident response for police, firefighters and search and rescue teams by making their work significantly safer and more effective. Real time video can be shared with responders before they arrive on scene, scouting for hazards and allowing incident commanders to quickly assess a situation, while reducing risks to human life. Aerial data from high resolution cameras and thermal imagers can quickly cover expansive areas for search and rescue operations. Undoubtedly, drones are an enabling capability that saves lives and our first responders are increasingly reliant on them to conduct public safety missions. This week I was down in Texas with the NUSTL team and responder partners from Colorado, Florida, Michigan, New York, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, and Virginia to test four drones from DOD’s vetted Blue UAS list - Skydio X2D, Ascent Aerosystems Spirit, Parrot ANAFI USA GOV, and Teal 2 for a range of rural response scenarios. With over a dozen products on the Blue List, these four platforms were selected by a focus group of state and local first responders as potentially meeting the diverse needs of law enforcement, fire, and search and rescue disciplines. This week we put these systems to the test under a variety of operationally representative conditions (and 105+ degree heat!) Were the systems a match for the ubiquitous platform whose name shall not be spoken but probably starts with the letter D and ends with I ;) Stay tuned for our report later this summer. AND, we’ll be back this fall with PART II of NUSTL’s Blue UAS Assessment, when we we’ll assess Blue List drones under even more challenging circumstances — the complex urban environment. #TestingTuesday from TEEX TT&IC! The first Tuesday of each month, TT&IC will highlight past operational tests for #TestingTuesday! Squishy Robotics In July 2023, Squishy Robotics operational testing took place at Brayton Fire Field, Disaster City, and Bush Combat Development Complex. Squishy robots can be used to detect levels of gases in a hazardous emergency with their 4-gas sensor array, cameras, and internal GPS. The TEEX Testing & Innovation Center is excited to announce the publishing of our newest TEEX Tested Report for InVeris Training Solutions! The assessment was performed at the TT&IC and the George H.W. Bush Combat Development Complex. The InVeris SURVIVR VR Law Enforcement Training System is a safe and cost-effective solution that attempts to recreate the stress and response needed for real-world law enforcement scenarios that officers are likely to encounter in the field. The SURVIVR system allows instructors to create customizable scenarios to simulate many of the situations law enforcement professionals encounter, from routine traffic stops to complex active shooter incidents.
